Ainge has no answers for Garnett

News: The Boston Globe reports that Celtics forward Kevin Garnett has two years left on his contract but is considering retirement. He turns 37 Sunday. “I don’t think I have the answers that Kevin will want,” Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. “So I’ve got to figure there’s a lot to do [before we talk], and I think there’s a lot of questions in Kevin’s mind, as there is every year, to determine whether he’s coming back.I’m not ready to answer everything that he will want to know.”
Analysis: Garnett had another productive year, averaging 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 78.6 percent from the foul line. He will likely return if the Celtics keep Paul Pierce, but that's just speculation. Keep an eye on what happens with the Celtics, and if Garnett is back consider him a solid No. 2 Fantasy center worth a mid-round pick.

Garnett could retire

News: ESPN reports that Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said he anticipates that forward Kevin Garnett will return to Boston next season. Garnett, 37 when next season starts, could consider retirement, especially if the Celtics start a rebuilding project. "I'll touch base with KG probably sometime next week," Ainge said. "He's put so much into the game, he invests as much as any player I've ever seen. And he just needs time to chill and contemplate his life and then we'll talk at some future time. But I do anticipate that KG will play. Just like I did last year, I feel the same this year. I don't know for sure, but we'll know more in the next couple weeks."
Garnett plays through hip trouble

News: Celtics center Kevin Garnett was able to play in Friday's Game 3 against the Knicks, despite suffering a hip injury in the previous game. Garnett started and played 34 minutes in the game, and he had a monster game on the boards, if not with his shot. Garnett brought down 17 rebounds in the game, five of them coming on the offensive glass. He added 12 points on 5 of 13 shooting, along with a pair of assists and two steals, in a 90-76 loss.
Analysis: Garnett has simply not seemed healthy in the playoffs so far, as he is averaging 11.3 points per game on 38.3 percent shooting through the first three games. The Celtics are on the verge of elimination in their next game, and Garnett's future is not completely clear. He is under contract for next season, but at 37 years old and with he Celtics' struggles this season, it would not be a terrible surprise if he opted to call it quits. Garnett finished the regular season with 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while missing 14 games. Garnett is no longer able to play big minutes consistently even when healthy, but he will almost certainly be a top-10 center next season, worth drafting before the middle rounds start on Draft Day if he is still playing.

Garnett 'good to go'

News: Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he expects forward Kevin Garnett to play in Game 3 despite dealing with a hip injury. "He’s good. He’s good to go," Rivers said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters. "He'll practice tomorrow, and he'll play on Friday." Garnett appeared to clutch his stomach while going for a rebound early in the fourth quarter, but he wouldn’t let Rivers take him out of the game. "He got hit in the hip, very similar to having a hip pointer in football. It’s affecting him. I was concerned he was grabbing something else," Rivers said. "In a couple timeouts, I was asking if he was OK."
Analysis: Through two games in the series, Garnett is averaging 10.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks. That is down from his season average of 14. 7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and the Celtics need Garnett to score more to come back from an 0-2 deficit. Keep an eye on Garnett's status for Game 3, but it sounds like he will play.

Garnett suffers hip injury

News: ESPN reports that Celtics coach Doc Rivers said center Kevin Garnett suffered something similar to a hip-pointer in Tuesday's loss to the Knicks in the first-round playoff series, but it’s not serious and he is expected to play in Game 3.
Analysis: Garnett was limited to 24 minutes against the Knicks on Tuesday, and he finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks. Hopefully he's able to play against the Knicks in Game 3, and he's a standout Fantasy option in all leagues when healthy.

Garnett returns vs. Magic

News: As expected, Celtics center Kevin Garnett was able to get back on the court for Saturday's game against the Magic. Garnett, who had only appeared in two of the last 12 games as he continues to nurse an ankle injury, finished with 14 points in the 120-88 win. He went 7 of 8 from the field and also added nine rebounds, three assists and one steal to his stat line, while logging 19 minutes of game action.
Analysis: The Celtics continue to rest up Garnett with the playoffs fast approaching, but owners knew that was a possibility when drafting the veteran. Despite seeing fewer than 30 minutes per game for just the third time in his career, Garnett has still managed to stay productive this year. He has put up 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds over his first 67 games, which translated into 27.7 Fantasy points per week in all standard formats. While the 36-year-old has lost a step, he will still have value heading into the 2013-14 campaign.

Garnett out again

News: The Celtics announced Thursday that veteran center Kevin Garnett and forward Paul Pierce will not play Friday against the Heat, due to ankle injuries. Garnett has missed eight of the last 10 games due to inflammation in his left ankle, but this is considered more of a rest situation than a re-aggravation.
Analysis: Fantasy owners who drafted Garnett knew he might take some time off at the end of the regular season to rest for the playoffs, but it has to be disappointing to see him miss 10 of the last 15 games, including Friday. Fantasy owners in daily formats playing out the final few days of the season will need to keep an eye on his status moving forward.

Garnett makes return for Celtics

News: Celtics forward Kevin Garnett was able to get back on the court for Sunday's contest against the Wizards. Garnett, who has missed the last eight games due to inflammation in his left ankle, finished with 12 points and six rebounds in the 107-96 win. He went 6 of 9 from the field and added three assists, two steals and one block to his stat line, while logging 24 minutes of game action.
Analysis: The Celtics will likely ease Garnett back into action as coach Doc Rivers told reporters he expects to limit the veteran's minutes at first. Fantasy owners who are still playing out leagues that go through Fantasy Week 24 (April 8-14) should keep that in mind when deciding on whether or not to get him active this week. Garnett saw 24 minutes in his return and we expect him to be in the 20-25 minute range for the most part next week. The 36-year-old is averaging 13.8 points and 6.6 rebounds when he sees fewer than 30 minutes per game on the year.

Garnett could return Sunday

News: Boston center Kevin Garnett (ankle) got back to practicing Saturday and could play Sunday against the Wizards, reports the Boston Globe. Garnett has missed the last eight games due to inflammation in his left ankle. "Obviously, rest is always a good thing for me," the 36-year-old Garnett said before joining his first full-contact practice in nearly two weeks. "I've been able to get multiple treatments a day on my foot. I'm getting better."
Analysis: Garnett still says he and coach Doc Rivers still need to have a discussion regarding "decisions for the future," and we're not sure if that means more rest might be coming Garnett's way. "It’s important to get him back on the floor, but if he’s not ready, he’s not ready," Rivers said. "I don’t know what the number of games is, everybody has their own thing with that, rhythm wise. Each individual player and I don’t what Kevin’s would be, but I do know he’s been out a while and the playoffs are soon." Garnett's status is still very much up in the air, which makes him tough to start in all Fantasy formats.

Garnett out Friday

News: The Boston Globe reports that Celtics forward Kevin Garnett will not play Friday against the Cavaliers as expected. Coach Doc Rivers said Thursday the earliest Garnett will play is Sunday against Washington. “He’ll probably participate in shootaround [Friday], but I’m not going to play him, even if he wants to play,” Rivers said. Garnett has been out the past seven games with inflammation in his left ankle.
Analysis: We hope that when Garnett does return he will be back at 100 percent. Continue to monitor his status heading into Sunday's game, and if he is in action then consider him a quality option in the majority of leagues.

Rivers: KG out Friday

News: Celtics coach Doc Rivers disputed a report in the Boston Globe saying that forward Kevin Garnett would return for Friday's game against the Cavaliers. When asked about the timetable for Garnett's return, Rivers said: "I think he'll be back maybe as early as Sunday." Boston plays Washington on Sunday. Garnett has been out the past seven games with inflammation in his left ankle.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should no plan to be without Garnett for Friday's game, and hopefully he can return Sunday. Continue to monitor what develops, but the longer Garnett remains out the worse it is for Fantasy owners because the regular season is drawing to a close.

Garnett to play Friday

News: The Boston Globe reports that a team source said that forward Kevin Garnett, who missed his seventh consecutive game with inflammation in his left ankle Wednesday, is expected to return to action Friday against the Cavaliers. “Yeah, I guess. I don’t even know,” coach Doc Rivers said when asked if Garnett would play this week. “Honestly, I haven’t asked one question about it.” The initial prognosis, made by the team March 25, was that Garnett would miss two weeks. “Whatever it is, it’s probably coming up and he’ll play,” Rivers said of Garnett’s timeframe for a possible return.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should keep an eye on what happens prior to Friday's game, and hopefully Garnett will return to face the Cavaliers. When healthy and active, Garnett is a must-start Fantasy option in all leagues, but the Celtics might use caution in his return with the playoffs near. Still, Garnett has the potential to post quality stats on any given night, and if he suits up Friday he should be used in most formats.

Garnett not at shootaround

News: The Celtics report that forward Kevin Garnett was not at shootaround Wednesday in advance of Wednesday's game against Detroit. Garnett has been dealing with persistent inflammation in his left foot, and the Pistons game will be the seventh game in a row he has missed. The Celtics are hopeful he can return for Friday's game against Cleveland.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Garnett's status, and hopefully he can return soon. The Celtics are obviously going to be cautious with Garnett with the postseason near, so they will make sure he's ready before putting him back on the court. When healthy and active, Garnett is a must-start Fantasy option, but he might not provide much help for the rest of the Fantasy season.

Garnett not pushing return

News: Celtics center Kevin Garnett is slated to sit out Monday's game against Minnesota with persistent inflammation in his left foot but had the matchup occurred in the postseason, he would have played. Still, Garnett was ultimately sidelined for the sixth consecutive game because of the issue. "If we were in the playoffs tonight, Kevin would absolutely be playing," coach Doc Rivers told reporters Monday morning.
Analysis: Rivers also revealed that Garnett was hampered by a bone spur that should be alleviated with additional rest. With Boston close to locking up a playoff spot without him, the team has no reason to rush him back until the start of the playoffs. Garnett is averaging 14.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game this season, but might not provide much Fantasy value fixed to the bench for the rest of the year. Keep him reserved in all formats for now in the event of an early return.

Garnett out another week

News: Celtics forward Kevin Garnett will likely be sidelined another week due to inflammation in his left foot, reports the Metro West Daily News. Garnett, who has now missed four straight games with his injury, has been doing some cardio work, but has yet to start any basketball related activities, according to the report.
Analysis: The Celtics want Garnett healthy for the postseason and the team seems to be in no real hurry to get him back on the court. That is not the news Fantasy owners were hoping to hear as it appears the veteran will now miss most, if not all, of Week 23 (April 1-7). We will continue to bring you the latest details surrounding his status, but owners should not plan on having Garnett available during the upcoming scoring period. However, we would recommend leaving him stashed for the time being.

Garnett likely out at least a week

News: Boston’s Kevin Garnett is expected to miss at least a week with inflammation in his left ankle as the Celtics practice patience with their 36-year-old star. Coach Doc Rivers, preparing his team for a playoff run, said on Monday he doesn’t think Garnett will be out for the long term. ‘‘I don’t know what long term is,’’ Rivers said before practice. ‘‘If you mean that he’s not going to play this year, no, I don’t worry about that. But can he miss four or five games? Yeah, that’s possible.’’
Analysis: Garnett sat out Saturday night’s 110-106 loss at Memphis and will miss Tuesday night’s home game against the New York Knicks, Rivers said. The Celtics’ busy stretch continues Wednesday night at Cleveland, Friday night at home against the Atlanta Hawks, Sunday night at New York and Monday at Minnesota. It is possible he will sit out all of those games. The Celtics are likely taking things easy on Garnett so that he'll be as healthy as possible for the playoffs. When healthy, Garnett remains a high-end starting Fantasy option in all formats.

Garnett could miss a few games

News: Boston center Kevin Garnett is unlikely to play Tuesday against the Knicks and coach Doc Rivers said Monday he could miss 4-5 games, reports the Boston Globe. Garnett's MRI did not reveal anything "overly alarming" but the team said he's dealing with ankle inflammation, something a little more serious than just a sprained ankle.
Analysis: The Celtics are likely taking things easy on Garnett so that he'll be as healthy as possible for the playoffs. We wouldn't expect to see him Tuesday or Wednesday against Cleveland, either. When healthy, Garnett remains a high-end starting Fantasy option in all formats.

Garnett sits with ankle injury

News: Celtics center Kevin Garnett was forced to sit out Saturday's game against the Grizzlies, due to a sprained ankle. It is not clear when Garnett suffered the injury, as he scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds in the team's previous game Friday.
Analysis: He might just be sitting out back to backs now, however the team has not made it clear that that is the case just yet. The severity of this injury is not yet known, however Garnett is frustrating his Fantasy owners right now, having missed three of the last five games. When healthy, Garnett remains a high-end starting Fantasy option in all formats.

Garnett back for Boston

News: Boston center Kevin Garnett (adductor, flu) was back on the court to play in New Orleans on Wednesday night. Coach Doc Rivers called Garnett "a go" before the game after the big man missed the previous two games but he returned with no issues. Garnett played 29 minutes and scored 20 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Analysis: Garnett was expected to be over the adductor issue but missed last game due to the flu. He's apparently OK now and should be fine going forward as the Celtics look to finish strong. Healthy again, Garnett should be active across the board in Fantasy.

Garnett travels with team

News: Celtics forward Kevin Garnett (abductor, flu) was able to travel with the team to New Orleans in preparation for Wednesday's contest against the Hornets, reports the team's official website. Garentt, who has missed the past two games due to a strained abductor muscle in his left leg and the flu, is expected to try and play Wednesday.
Analysis: Garnett is apparently over his leg injury and is just waiting to get the flu bug out of his system before getting back on the court. Most are expecting that to happen Wednesday, which would still give the veteran three scheduled games this week. While Garnett is no longer the high-end option he once was, he can still considered a viable start in most leagues when healthy.

Garnett unable to go vs. Heat

News: Celtics forward Kevin Garnett was ruled out for Monday's contest against the Heat due to an illness and abductor strain in his left leg, reports the team's official website. Garnett was unable to participate in the team's morning shootaround session, but he remains listed as day to day.
Analysis: Garnett was unable to give it a go Monday night, but the Celtics think he should be able to get back in the lineup sometime this week. Despite missing Monday's tilt, Garnett has been very durable as this marks just the third game he has missed all year. Keep an eye on his status moving forward. The veteran is averaging 13.3 points and 8.4 rebounds over his previous 10 games and can be considered a viable start in most formats when healthy.

Garnett uncertain for Monday

News: Boston power forward Kevin Garnett (strained adductor) was unable to practice on Sunday, reports the MetroWest Daily News. Garnett is considered a game-time decision for Monday against Miami.
Analysis: Garnett will now be an injury-risk option heading into Fantasy Week 21 (March 18-24). Owners will now have to keep an eye on his status leading up to when lineups lock Monday evening before deciding on whether to get him active or not. The 36-year-old has been very durable thus far and is averaging 13.3 points and 8.4 rebounds over his previous 10 games. Garnett can be considered a viable start in all formats -- especially at the thin center position.

Garnett sits with abductor strain

News: Celtics forward Kevin Garnett was ruled out for Saturday's contest against the Bobcats due to an abductor strain in his left leg, reports the team's official website. Coach Doc Rivers said Garnett "wasn't moving around well” in practice Friday and his status for Monday's contest against the Heat is now in question. He is officially being listed as day to day.

Garnett struggling with shot

News: Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett continued his recent shooting woes on Tuesday night against the Bobcats as he scored in single digits for the second time in the last six games. He finished with a season-low five points on 2-of-10 shooting in the 100-74 loss. He missed his lone attempt from beyond the arc and went 1 for 2 from the foul line while playing 21 minutes. Garnett also posted two rebounds and an assist in the defeat.
Analysis: Garnett has made 14 of 45 (31 percent) shots in the previous three games as he has hit a bit of a rough patch for the Celtics. He continues to do a decent job on the boards and defensively, however, so owners should not worry too much. The 36-year-old continues to be a reliable option in Fantasy so keep Garnett active in most formats, as he should get back on track sooner rather than later.
