News: As expected, the Heat signed veteran forward Juwan Howard for the remainder of the season, the team announced Friday.
Analysis: Howard has yet to appear in a game and that isn't likely to change until the last few days of the regular season. He has absolutely no Fantasy value and should be ignored in all formats moving forward.
News: Veteran center Juwan Howard signed a second 10-day contract to stay with the Heat, the team announced Tuesday. Howard joined the team earlier this month after failing to land a spot during the offseason.
Analysis: Howard has not appeared in a game since his reunion with the Heat and hasn't been considered a viable Fantasy option since the 2003-04 season. Keep him parked on waivers in all formats as he averaged just 6.8 minutes per game last year.
News: The Heat signed forward/center Juwan Howard on Saturday, reports NBA.com.
Analysis: The 40-year-old Howard may give the Heat some minutes, but he won't be bringing any Fantasy value to the table.
News: Heat forward Juwan Howard hasnt seen much playing time this season, however he saw more of the floor on Sunday against the Lakers than he had all year, as the Heat were without Chris Bosh and in need of big bodies. Howard played a season-high nine minutes on Sunday, going 0 of 5 from the field to finish with three points, and he also had four rebounds as the Heat lost, 93-83.
Analysis: Howard played for the first time in four games, as he remains just a reserve option. If Bosh had been with the team, they likely wouldnt have turned to Howard at all, so continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.
News: Heat F Juwan Howard was ejected during Tuesday night's contest against the Pacers. Howard was tossed after picking up a double technical foul in the fourth quarter of the 105-90 blowout win. He finished with just one rebound, while logging six minutes.
Analysis: Howard is merely a reserve option for Miami, who only sees the court during mop-up duty most nights. While he provides a veteran presence on the bench, at age 39, he doesn't have much to offer Fantasy owners. Leave Howard on the waiver wire in all formats at this point in the season.
News: Veteran Heat F Juwan Howard hasnt been much of a factor for the team this season, however he did get a little bit of playing time on Sunday against at Atlanta. As the Heat took a 27-point lead into the fourth quarter and with two more games over the next two nights, they went with little-used reserves for the final period. As a result, Howard received six minutes of playing time in a game the team would end up winning 107-87. Howard made the most of his time on the floor, scoring four points on 2 of 2 shooting with two assists and a rebound in the game.
Analysis: Howard, 39, is one of the oldest players in the NBA, and the Heat keep him around largely for his veteran presence. The six minutes he saw on Sunday were the most hes received since the fourth game of the season. Fantasy owners should want nothing to do with Howard, and he is not worth owning in any Fantasy format at this time.
News: Heat F Juwan Howard was once again a non-factor during Friday night's contest against the 76ers. Howard logged only three minutes in the 99-79 victory and failed to stat. He is averaging just 0.8 points and 0.9 rebounds in eight games thus far.
Analysis: Howard is usually one of the last men off the bench for Miami and only plays in mop-up duty or when one of the Heat's bigs are in foul trouble. He is not worth owning in any format at this point in the season.
News: The South-Florida Sun Sentinel is reporting that the Heat finalized a deal with veteran F Juwan Howard. Howard averaged 2.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in 57 games last year with Miami.
Analysis: Howard has re-signed with the Heat. The veteran will likely just provide frontcourt depth for Miami and will find it hard to come across consistent minutes. Fantasy owners can continue to ignore the 38-year-old in the majority of formats at this time.
News:USA Today reports Thursday that Miami forward Juwan Howard, who was ejected from a game involving the Washington Wizards Wednesday for his part in a scuffle, has been fined $35K by the NBA. However, he was not suspended for his part in the incident. John Wall received a suspension for appearing to throw a punch, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas was also fined. The other participant who was involved, specifically with Howard, was JaVale McGee. He was neither fined or suspended.
Analysis: Howard attempted to break up the initial altercation between Wall and Ilgauskas Wednesday, and he shoved McGee in the process. Howard was then ejected for the second time this season against the Wizards before receiving the fine. Fantasy wise, Howard is nothing but frontcourt depth for the Heat. The former fab five standout from Michigan has seen better years in the NBA -- this being his 16th season. He averages less than three points and rebounds per game this season. Fantasy owners should not consider him regardless of format moving forward.
News: For a second time this season, Miami forward Juwan Howard was ejected from a game involving the Washington Wizards. On Wednesday he got thrown out of the game for pushing JaVale McGee during a fracas involving John Wall and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. The official announcement was that Howard 'escalated' the events on the court. Howard had a few words for Washington coach Flip Saunders as well before he was escorted to the bench by teammates. He was issued a technical and sent to the locker room. Back on Nov. 29, Howard got tossed for showing Hilton Armstrong to the ground after he was called for a flagrant-2 foul.
Analysis: Howard is nothing but frontcourt depth for the Heat. The former fab five standout for Michigan has seen better years in the NBA -- this being his 16th season. He's getting about 10 minutes per outing in Miami and averaging just 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Fantasy owners should avoid Howard for the remainder of the season as he won't be a factor in any format.
News: Miami forward Juwan Howard appeared for the first time since January 28 in Thursday's 94-88 win over the Lakers. He appeared in the first quarter, and saw 10 minutes of playing time. Howard failed to take a single shot, but he managed to pull down three rebounds and assist on a basket on the night.
Analysis: Howard is one of the veteran frontcourt players the Heat signed in the offseason to provide some leadership and example in the locker room. He isn't expected to see consistent playing time unless the team deals with some unexpected injuries. Fantasy owners should not worry about acquiring Howard in any format with his lack of production on the bench.
News: Miami forward Juwan Howard has not been much of a factor in the first half of the season. Howard has only appeared in three of the Heat's last 10 games and hasn't seen the floor for more than six minutes in any of those contests. Howard is averaging just 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds through 40 games on the season.
Analysis: Howard saw most some decent run in December and January, but that was when the Heat were dealing with a a few injuries. Now that the team is mostly healthy, the 17-year veteran has seen his role severely reduced. Howard wasn't expected to have much value entering the season and has lived up to those expectations for the most part. Unless he sees a major increase in minutes and production, leave him on the waiver wire heading into the second half of the season.
News: Heat C Juwan Howard was ejected from Monday's game against Washington after playing just 10 minutes. Howard was ejected in the third quarter after Hilton Armstrong picked up a flagrant 2 foul on Joel Anthony and was tossed. Howard shoved Armstrong and was assessed a technical foul and was ejected. Howard had gone 2 for 3 over 10 minutes to score four points. He added one rebound.
Analysis: Howard is getting just 10 minutes per game this season for the Heat. He's not a major part of the rotation and has just low-end Fantasy value.
News: Miami forward Juwan Howard was ejected from the game on Monday against Washington after he shoved Hilton Armstrong to the ground. Armstrong was also tossed because of his hard foul on Heat center Joel Anthony. The incident happened with 32 seconds left in the third quarter.
Analysis: Howard is being expected to step up and get more playing time with Udonis Haslem out of action. Howard entered Monday's contest averaging just 1.5 points and 1.19 rebounds in his eight games played. He doesn't have much Fantasy value and should be viewed as just an emergency stopgap. Wait to see if any further action is taken against him by the league for his involvement in this incident.
News: The Miami Herald reports that Heat F Udonis Haslem will be out for "weeks" and potentially much longer. Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Juwan Howard are expected to see a rise in playing time in his absence.
Analysis: Howard has appeared in just four games, averaging 8.3 minutes per game. Howard is not likely to see consistent playing time at this stage in his career and won't be much more than an emergency stopgap measure, but he is worth taking a flier on in deeper leagues.
News: Heat C Juwan Howard returned to action in Saturday's game against the Grizzlies after sitting out the night before due to a broken nose. He played eight minutes off the bench, scoring two points on 1 of 1 shooting in the 97-95 loss. Howard had one assist, committed three fouls and had one turnover in his time on the court.
Analysis: Howard suffered the injury on Wednesday against the Suns but played with a protective mask on his face and a bandage on his nose. He has only appeared in four games so far this season and isn't a major part of the Heat's rotation at this point. He can be ignored in all formats until he sees an increase in minutes and production.
News: Heat center Juwan Howard was cleared to play for Friday's game against the Bobcats but did not make an appearance in the 95-87 win. He broke his nose in Wednesday's game against the Suns but can play with a protective mask on his face.
Analysis: Howard has only appeared in three games so far this season and isn't a major part of the Heat's rotation at this point. He can be ignored in all formats until he sees an increase in minutes and production.
News: Heat center Juwan Howard, who broke his noes in Wednesday's game against the Suns, was been cleared to play in Friday's game against the Grizzlies, reports the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Howard will wear a protective mask on his face.
Analysis: Howard has only appeared in three games so far this season and isn't a major part of the Heat's rotation at this point. He can be ignored in all formats until he sees an increase in minutes and production.
News: Miami backup center Juwan Howard left Wednesday's game with Phoenix with a broken nose. He played 15 minutes and went 1 for 3 from the field, finishing with two points. He was able to grab five boards in his limited playing time as well.
Analysis: Howard isn't a big time Fantasy factor and it is unclear if he'll miss time with this injury. He's been bouncing between bench player and being inactive this year, which means he can be ignore in all formats.
News: Miami C Juwan Howard (shoulder) played four minutes in Wednesday's game at Philadelphia after not playing in the opener. He did not take a shot and did not get a rebound in the game.
Analysis: Howard is old and he's not a big part of what they are doing in Miami. Unless that changes, Howard has almost no Fantasy value.
News: Veteran big man Juwan Howard did not play in Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Celtics in Boston. He has been out of practice due to a shoulder issue, but was expected to be available Tuesday.
Analysis: Howard was active and suited up for the game, but he did not get any minutes. Part of that may have been due to the shoulder, but it likely had more to do with a reluctance to use him in a game the Heat trailed from wire to wire. Howard will not see enough consistent playing time to use in any Fantasy league.
News: ESPN.com reports that Heat C Juwan Howard sat out Sunday's practice due to a sore shoulder. Howard is expected to be available for Tuesday's opener against Boston, however.
Analysis: Howard is a veteran who will play an important, but small role for a Heat team that lacks real depth at center. He is not a player we expect to put up significant totals on a regular basis and he can remain unowned in all Fantasy leagues as a result.
News: Heat C Juwan Howard saw some decent action in Saturday's preseason game against the Spurs. The 37-year-old scored eight points on 3 of 6 shooting while playing just under 21 minutes in the 90-73 loss. He made both of his free throw attempts and collected seven rebounds in the defeat.
Analysis: Howard, who will begin his 17th NBA season this fall, will serve as mainly a role player off the bench for Miami this year and should see time at center against bigmen. Expect him to average no more than around 20 minutes per game with a handful of points and boards per contest. He won't be worth drafting in any Fantasy format so ignore Howard on Draft Day.
News:Juwan Howard joined the Miami Heat on Tuesday. "We feel that Juwan's ability to play both the four and five spot will be complimentary to what we have put together," said Riley, the Heat president. "He also gives us incredible professionalism and is a perfect fit behind Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem."
Analysis: Miami will be the ninth team for Howard, who will begin his 17th NBA season this fall. He appeared in 73 games with Portland last season and averaged 6.0 points, making 27 starts. With Howard signed, the Heat now have an inside corps of himself, Bosh, Haslem, Joel Anthony, Jamaal Magloire, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and rookie Dexter Pittman. Expect the veteran to be a role player, very seldom useful in Fantasy.
News: Trail Blazers F Juwan Howard averaged just 14.5 minutes per game in a six-game series loss to the Suns in the first round of the NBA playoffs. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Analysis: Howard gave the Blazers some much needed depth on the roster with all the injuries the team up front. However, the 15-year NBA veteran is not going to be in a situation going forward where he can provide Fantasy owners with significant numbers on a regular basis. Ignore him.
News: According to The Columbian, Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge was hospitalized Tuesday night due to a stomach virus. He stayed overnight for evaluation and was expected to be released from the hospital on Tuesday. Aldridge, who is also dealing with a left-calf contusion, is listed as doubtful because of viral gastroenteritis for the team's regular-season finale against Golden State. Veteran forward Juwan Howard will likely replace Aldridge in the starting lineup.
Analysis: Aldridge averaged 17.9 points and 8.0 rebounds in 78 appearances and if this is it for his 2009-10 regular season, it has been another solid year. His scoring went down a smidge compared to last year, but he has been at or around 17-18 points each of the last three years. He will once again be a solid early-round pick in Fantasy leagues next season. Howard could be in for a cheap stat line against a Warriors team that gives up big games to just about everyone they face.
News: According to Yahoo! Sports, citing league sources, the Portland Trail Blazers agreed in principle Tuesday to acquire Camby from the Clippers. The trade sends Camby to Portland in exchange for forward Travis Outlaw, guard Steve Blake and $3 million cash. This trade likely means Juwan Howard will return to the bench for the Blazers.
Analysis: This news means that Camby will fill a gaping hole the contending Trail Blazers have at the center position following the losses of Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla this season. Juwan Howard had been starting at center, but will now move to the bench. For Camby, he should retain much of his Fantasy appeal in Portland so his value does not change much. His presence in Portland will affect players like Howard, but the biggest change in value will happen in L.A. where players like Craig Smith and DeAndre Jordan will get a chance to step up. Camby remains a safe play for Fantasy Week 17 (Feb. 15-21) and going forward.
News: Portland F Juwan Howard scored 10 points and added seven rebounds as the Blazers fell to the Lakers 99-82 on Saturday. In 28 minutes of play, Howard shot 5 of 7 from the field and added an assist.
Analysis: Howard has scored 10 points in back-to-back games and is averaging 6.2 points and eight boards over his last five games. Since Howard is able to contribute on the glass, he provides some Fantasy value in the deepest of leagues where rebounds are needed.
News: According to The Oregonian, Trail Blazers F/C Juwan Howard will return to the starting lineup Wednesday against Utah. Jeff Pendergraph had been starting at center for the team's last two games.
Analysis: Howard had 16 points with seven rebounds in the team's last game against the Hornets. Coach Nate McMillan continues to look for answers at center after the losses of Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla and he will continue to have to mix and match. Fantasy owners can't rely on either player heavily, but whomever is getting the most run has some appeal as a stopgap in deeper formats. Right now, that should be Howard.
News: Portland forward Juwan Howard had 16 points and seven rebounds Monday night against New Orleans. It was his first game with double figures in points since Jan. 5 against Memphis, a span of eight games. Howard is now coming off the bench for Portland, but he's still averaging 33.6 minutes in his past five games.
Analysis: Howard is getting increased playing time with Portland dealing with injuries. Still, Howard has been inconsistent in his production and remains a low-end Fantasy option in all formats. In leagues where you can use him as a center he has increased value, but he should not be considered a weekly starter in most leagues.
News: Portland PF Juwan Howard continues to make the most of his increased playing time, finishing with six points and 12 rebounds in Friday's overtime loss to the Celtics. In 41 minutes he added two assists and one steal.
Analysis: Howard's increased minutes have led to increased production which translates to an increase in value. In all 10 games this month he has played at least 30 minutes, averaging 9.3 points and 6.8 rebounds. Numbers like that make him a No. 2 Fantasy option at center.
News: Portland PF Juwan Howard scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds on Friday in a win over the Lakers. Howard shot 4 of 8 from the field and dished out two assists.
Analysis: Howard is averaging 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds over his last five games for the Blazers as he's been getting almost 35 minutes per night. As long as he's playing this much, Howard is definitely worth a Fantasy look in deeper leagues.
News: Portland PF Juwan Howard was only a rebound away from recording a double-double on Wednesday in a win over the Clippers. He went 5 for 7 from the field, scoring 10 points and adding nine rebounds. He also had two assists and two steals in the contest.
Analysis: Howard had failed to score in double digits in his past two games but had recorded double-doubles in his two games prior to that. He has become a usable Fantasy option with both Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla out for the Blazers due to injury. However, he remains just a low-end stopgap Fantasy center.
News: Portland won at Dallas on Tuesday as PF Juwan Howard did some damage. Howard recorded a double-double as he scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He added four dimes and shot 5 of 10 from the field.
Analysis: For Howard, Tuesday marked his season's first double-double. The Blazers lost center Joel Przybilla in the game and are down two centers with Greg Oden also out. This could mean more minutes for Howard, who isn't a center but a power forward. Howard still basically zero Fantasy value until this actually translates into higher production values.
News: Portland PF Juan Howard scored 15 points on 6 of 7 shooting over 16 minutes on Friday night in a loss at Cleveland.
Analysis: Howard has played five games in December. He has book ended double-digit scoring performances over the month with 14 points against Miami on Dec. 1. In between, however, he totaled just eight points. He doesn't rebound much and that keeps him from having any really Fantasy value whatsoever.
News: Veteran forward Juwan Howard signed a one-year contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, the team announced Thursday. Terms were not disclosed. "Juwan Howard will add a wealth of experience and veteran savvy to our young, talented roster," Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said in a statement. "We look forward to Juwan's contributions on the court and in the locker room."
Analysis: Howard a 15-year veteran, averaged 4.1 points in 42 games with Denver and Charlotte last season. He is not expected to have much Fantasy appeal.
News: Bobcats PF Juwan Howard returned from a toe injury that kept him out two games before the All-Star break on Tuesday night against the Magic. Howard played eight minutes and scored two points on 1-of-2 shooting. He added two rebounds.
Analysis: The Bobcats were using more of Howard when they were banged up. They've since returned to health and Howard will no longer be someone worth using or even owning in Fantasy.
News: Bobcats PF Juwan Howard missed Wednesday's game against the Wizards with inflammation of his right big toe. Howard said at shootaround he feels better and anticipates playing right after the All-Star break.
Analysis: Howard is averaging 12 points per game with four boards over his last three contests but has missed two of his last three games with this toe problem. He could have been someone worth picking up in deeper leagues as the Bobcats are a bit banged up and he would be receiving extra time on the court but now that he's injured you can leave him on waivers in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports that Vladimir Radmanovic will start for the Bobcats on Wednesday against Washington with Juwan Howard expected to be out again with inflammation of his right big toe. Howard said at shootaround he feels better and anticipates playing right after the All-Star break.
Analysis: Radmanovic will have increased Fantasy value with Gerald Wallace still out with rib and lung injuries. See how Radmanovic does as a starter, but he is worth adding in deep leagues at this time. Keep Howard out in daily leagues, and he has minimal Fantasy value when healthy.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports that Bobcats coach Larry Brown does not expect Juwan Howard (toe) to play Wednesday against Washington. He did not play in Monday's game against the Clippers after his sore toe flared up following Sunday's loss to Miami.
News: Charlotte PF Juwan Howard did not play in Monday's game against the Clippers after his sore toe flared up following Sunday's loss to Miami.
News: Charlotte PF Juwan Howard was able to return to the Bobcats' lineup on Sunday after mssing Friday's game against the Hawks. He scored 14 points against the Heat, adding three assists and three rebounds in the game.
Analysis: Howard has three double-digit performances in a row for Charlotte, but doesn't do enough in the other categories to stay relevant. Leave him on waivers.
News: Charlotte F Juwan Howard did not play in Friday's game against the Hawks as expected as he deals with an injured toe. He remains questionable for Sunday's game at Miami.
Analysis: Keep Howard reserved in all leagues at this time. Even when healthy, Howard has minimal Fantasy value.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports Bobcats forward Juwan Howard is out Friday against Atlanta with an inflamed toe. He missed practice the past two days with the injury. Howard has been getting extra playing time with Gerald Wallace out with a broken rib and lung injuries.
Analysis: Keep Howard reserved in all leagues at this time. Even when healthy, Howard has minimal Fantasy value.
News: Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace is expected to be out until the All-Star break and maybe longer with a broken rib and collapsed lung. Adam Morrison has struggled filling in for Wallace at small forward. The Bobcats could move Boris Diaw to that spot and start Juwan Howard at power forward, but Howard missed practice Wednesday with a sore toe.
Analysis: Regardless of who starts in place of Wallace, Morrison and Howard have minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be used in anything but the deepest formats as long as Wallace is out.
News: Despite a report in the Charlotte Observer Monday saying that Juwan Howard would start Monday night's game in Utah, he wound up playing 25 minutes off the bench. In those 25 minutes, he managed 12 points and three rebounds, shooting 6-for-8 from the field.
Analysis: The Bobcats wound up starting Adam Morrison, who played only 22 minutes and managed just four points and a rebound. This is how the team is attempting to make up for the loss of Gerald Wallace after the vicious hit he took from Andrew Bynum last week that caused him to fracture a rib and suffer a collapsed lung. There is no timetable for Wallace's return, but it is safe to say he will be out a while. Howard could have some low-end stopgap appeal in Fantasy leagues in the meantime.
News: Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace, who suffered a collapsed lung and broken rib in a collision with Lakers center Andrew Bynum last week and was expected to remain in the Los Angeles area Monday, will miss the Bobcats' game Monday at Utah. The Charlotte Observer reports Juwan Howard will start at power forward for the Bobcats, with Boris Diaw being shifted to small forward. Adam Morrison will return to the bench.
Analysis: Howard is worth adding in deeper leagues at this time but don't expect him to start posting quality stats again. He'll be 36 this week and is just helping to hold things down while Wallace is out. Howard has minimal Fantasy value right now.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports Monday that Bobcats coach Larry Brown says he'll start Adam Morrison on Monday night against the Jazz, but it's obvious from how much Juwan Howard is practicing with the starters that Morrison is on a short leash. Morrison's confidence appears shaky after he struggled the past two games as a fill-in starter for the injured Gerald Wallace.
Analysis: Regardless of who starts in place of Wallace, Morrison and Howard have minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be used in anything but the deepest formats as long as Wallace is out.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports that Bobcats coach Larry Brown plans to lean heavily on Boris Diaw's versatility in the absence of Gerald Wallace (ribs, lung). The starter at power forward, Diaw will play a lot more small forward now, with Juwan Howard playing more off the bench at power forward.
Analysis: Howard played 24 minutes on Wednesday in Portland, his highest total since Dec. 16. He scored nine points, but only brought down two rebounds. Fantasy owners can expect a little more production out of him on the boards if he does indeed continue to get more minutes. However, his value in Fantasy remains limited as a role-playing veteran.
News: Bobcats 35-year-old PF Juwan Howard got a start Tuesday against the Bulls with usual starter Gerald Wallace attending to a personal matter. Howard played 26 minutes, finishing with eight points and five rebounds.
Analysis: Howard is presumably too old to play a significant role with the Bobcats, but if he can play as many as 26 minutes in the occasional spot start, he's not a complete nobody for Fantasy purposes. Still, he should remain on waivers in virtually all formats.
News: The Charlotte Bobcats have signed Juwan Howard three days after reaching an agreement with the veteran forward. The Bobcats waived little-used forward Dwayne Jones to make room on the roster.
Analysis: Howard had been without a job since being released by Denver after the Allen Iverson trade last month. A former All-Star in his 15th season, Howard's numbers have declined in the past few seasons. He is not worth owning in Fantasy leagues right now.
News: The Bobcats were closing in Tuesday night on signing veteran forward Juwan Howard, who had been without a job since being released by Denver last month. General manager Rod Higgins said he had been in discussions with Howard's agent, David Falk, and expected a deal completed in next day or two. The Nuggets had also shown interest in re-signing the 35-year-old Howard, in his 15th NBA season. "We're fortunate that we were able to get in the mix with Juwan," Higgins said.
Analysis: Howard has played in only three games so far, scoring one bucket while averaging 7.3 minutes. He has no Fantasy value right now and likely won't develop any at his age.
News: The Nuggets' trade of Allen Iverson to Detroit meant the end of Juwan Howard's short stay in Denver. With 14 players on the roster after acquiring three for one, the Nuggets waived Howard, their only player with a non-guaranteed contract.
Analysis: Howard had played in all three of Denver's game so far, scoring one bucket while averaging 7.3 minutes. The 14th-year pro has also played for Washington, Dallas, Orlando and Houston. He has no Fantasy value right now and likely won't develop any at his age.
News:Carmelo Anthony will be serving a team-imposed two-game suspension in Fantasy Week 1 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2) as punishment for an arrest back in April. Dahntay Jones is expected to start in his place, but his upside is very limited in Fantasy. Allen Iverson should play in the opener, but has been at far less than 100 percent in the preseason, averaging just 5.3 points in three appearances. The Nuggets play three games, which is good news this week for Denver's second-tier players considering the situations of Anthony and Iverson.
Analysis: Kenyon Martin will start at power forward and Anthony Carter should start at the point. With 'Melo out for the first two games, it means more minutes and more touches for J.R. Smith and Linas Kleiza. Both have some appeal as stopgap options this week in deeper formats. Chris Andersen, Renaldo Balkman and Juwan Howard are players to monitor early this season. They could become nice additions in Rotisserie leagues for rebounding help due to the absence of Marcus Camby in Denver this season. They aren't recommended starts yet, though. Nene will begin the season as the team's starting center, but he'll have to prove he can be productive before he ascends from the ranks of No. 3 centers in Fantasy.
News: Nuggets F Juwan Howard started Friday's preseason game against Phoenix at power forward. He played 18 minutes and contributed seven rebounds and six points.
Analysis: Howard averaged a career-low 1.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists in his 14th NBA season last year with Dallas. But with the Nuggets having little to no depth in the front court and very few rebounders on the roster, he could have a bounce-back year. There is some low-end sleeper potential here, especially in Rotisserie formats for his rebounding.
News: The Nuggets signed veteran F Juwan Howard earlier this week. Howard averaged a career-low 1.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists in his 14th NBA season last year with Dallas.
Analysis: Howard is not likely to have a big role with the Nuggets, but the team does not have many viable rebounders so it is possible he plays more than he did a year ago.
News: Mavericks F Juwan Howard averaged a career-low 1.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists in his 14th NBA season. His previous low in scoring was 9.6 in the 2004-05 regular season.
Analysis: At this point, you have to wonder if Howard will even want to return for another season. What you don't have to wonder is where Howard will go in Fantasy drafts. Because that won't be happening.
News: Mavs PF Juwan Howard sat for the fifth time in his last eight games on Monday night as Dallas defeated the Knicks 99-89. Howard is averaging 0.8 points this season.
Analysis: Howard has vanished from the Mavs rotation and only comes in on rare occasions. He is not worth using in Fantasy play at this time.
News: Juwan Howard made his season debut with Dallas late in the first quarter Friday at Atlanta. He joined the team Tuesday. He did not score in seven minutes.
Analysis: Howard is a role-player at this stage of his career, which gives him little value in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues. He'll have the occasional good scoring night, but he won't do much more.
News: The Dallas Mavericks are bringing back Juwan Howard after agreeing to terms with the veteran forward on Tuesday. Howard, who played for Dallas during parts of the 2000-01 and '01-02 seasons, can't sign with the Mavericks until he clears waivers Wednesday, the same day Dallas plays its season opener at Cleveland. "Any time you can pick up a guy with his skill set and experience, it's a no-brainer," Donnie Nelson, president of basketball operations, told The Associated Press. "When this opportunity came up, it was too good to pass up." Howard and the Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a buyout Monday.
Analysis: Howard is expected to play immediately. "You can never have enough depth at the front-line positions," Nelson said. "He provides something different from what we have. He's a guy that can extend the defense with his mid-range jump shot." He's also a role-player at this stage of his career, which gives him little value in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues. Analysis:
News: Forward Juwan Howard, who has risen above the Wizards' muck, has made a plea to the coaching staff to step up his offensive role. Howard is averaging 13 shots a game and feels the team is better off -- especially with the struggles of the backcourt tandem of hobbled Mitch Richmond and Strickland -- if he got 17 to 20 shots per game. In 1995-96, his only season as an All-Star, he took 18.5 shots a game and averaged 22.1 points. He is now averaging 14.4 points to lead the anemic Washington attack.
Analysis:
News: Wizards forward Juwan Howard is shooting 47 percent from the field, but is averaging five points less than his career average (19.3). He is struggling early on this season and could probably be had for a cheap price. If his current owner has given up on him and you need a little scoring punch, Howard may be your man.
