Each week, we'll survey the Fantasy Basketball landscape and provide you with a list of players whose Fantasy value has increased or decreased over the course of the past week. The arrows indicate which way a player's stock is heading, but you'll have to read what we have to say to know whether you should hold on to a player, or make a move to trade him -- or trade for him.
Kwame Brown, C, Los Angeles Lakers Prior to facing Seattle, Brown had not played more than 30 minutes this season, and he played 39 against the Sonics. He had not scored in double figures, and he got 10 points. He had no games with double figures in rebounds, and he had 10. With Andrew Bynum (knee) and Chris Mihm (sore Achilles' tendon) out, look for Brown to benefit. It would be a good idea to add him to your lineup now and start shopping him around the league in trade offers.
Andris Biedrins, C, Golden State Biedrins is second in the NBA in field goal percentage at 62.8 percent, but he hasn't been shooting well lately. He went 0-for-5 on Tuesday at Minnesota, which snapped a streak of 123 consecutive games with at least one made field goal when he attempts at least one shot (there were four games in which he didn't attempt a field goal). And in his past four games against Portland, Memphis, Indiana and Minnesota, he's averaging 3.0 points on 26.1 percent (6-for-23) shooting. It should turn around, but right now he's hurting Fantasy owners.
Ron Artest, F, Sacramento Artest was expected to miss most of January with an elbow injury, but he should be in the lineup Wednesday night at Toronto after missing nine games. The injury is not expected to linger, but you might want to consider trading Artest in your Fantasy league now. The Kings could make a move to send Artest elsewhere, which could hurt his value. And with the Kings getting solid production from John Salmons and Francisco Garcia, Artest could lose some playing time.
Kevin Durant, F, Seattle All of the sudden Durant can't shoot, rebound or share the ball. In his past five games Durant is averaging 18.4 points, but he's shooting just 34 percent, including 20 missed shots in his last game against the Lakers. He's also averaging just 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He has played well for a rookie and is carrying the offensive load for a bad team, but he might have more success driving to the basket instead of settling for so many jump shots.
Pau Gasol, C, Memphis Prior to the season we told you Gasol would be the No. 2 Fantasy center this year behind Orlando's Dwight Howard. Following a slow start, Gasol is finally living up to the hype. Over the past 14 days Gasol is averaging 23.4 points and 11.4 rebounds, a span of eight games. He has also recorded four double-doubles in his past five outings. If this type of production continues, Gasol will finish as one of the most dominant centers in the league.
Hedo Turkoglu, F, Orlando Turkoglu is having a career season this year, but his offense has struggled recently. He is averaging only 8.7 points over his past three games, which is well below his season average (18.7 points). Turkoglu will likely get things going again, but this could be a good time to try and trade for Turkoglu since one of his Fantasy owners could be frustrated by the recent lack of production.
Dwyane Wade, G, Miami Wade put many Fantasy owners at ease when he recently said he has no plans to shut it down this season -- at least any time soon. With the Heat last in the Eastern Conference and with Wade still not 100 percent following offseason knee and shoulder surgeries, there was some talk about the guard taking time off this year to be at full strength next season. But Wade said, "To say shut it down right now is a joke." That means Fantasy owners can count on Wade, who is averaging 24.1 points, 6.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds, to finish out the year.
Vince Carter, G, New Jersey Carter's scoring (21.1) and rebounding (5.2) is already down from last season, when he averaged 25.2 points and 6.0 rebounds. Now he's in a funk, at least for Carter, scoring less than 20 points in his past three games, with only 10 points in his past game against Portland. In his past two first halves against the Trail Blazers and Boston, Carter has five points on 1-of-10 shooting. He will likely come around and start scoring at a higher rate, but right now his value has taken a hit with his recent play.
Nate Robinson, G, New York With Stephon Marbury (ankle) possibly shutting it down for the season, Robinson could see a tremendous boost in value. And he's playing well recently with Marbury in and out of the lineup. Through eight games in January, Robinson is averaging 16.5 points and 3.9 assists in 30.5 minutes per game. He has scored in double figures in 12 of his past 13 games. He is worth using as a No. 3 Fantasy guard at this time, and you might consider trading Robinson to any Marbury owners if his season is over.
Ray Allen, G, Boston Allen is already having his worst season since 1998, when he averaged 17.1 points with Milwaukee. He is at 17.6 points now and is struggling recently while dealing with a pinched nerve in his neck. Allen has scored less than 10 points in three of his last five games. He's also shooting just 36.7 percent over that span and averaging only 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. We knew Allen's point production would decrease with the move to Boston, but hopefully he can rebound from his recent slump and finish the season strong.
