What's on the Schedule: Week 6
There are 116 games on tap during Fantasy Week 6 (Jan. 30-Feb. 5) as the NBA calendar is about to turn into February. While the schedule continues to balance itself as the weeks pass, there are still several intriguing matchups on the docket during the upcoming scoring period. Three teams will play a set of three games over three consecutive days including the Pistons, who we have chosen to highlight this week.
The Pistons are just one of two teams to play five times during Week 6 and the first team to play five times during a scoring period more than once this season. The Pistons, who also played five games back in Fantasy Week 3 (Jan. 9-15), will begin the week playing three games over three consecutive days, starting against the Bucks on Monday night. Detroit will then be in New York on Tuesday for a game against the Knicks before wrapping up its triple set against the Nets on Wednesday. After a day off, Brandon Knight and Co. will face Milwaukee for the second time during the scoring period -- and third occasion of the season -- Friday night at home. Detroit will close out the week against the Hornets on Saturday night to wrap up a grueling stretch of nine games over 14 days.

The Pistons have really struggled during the early part of the season and their upcoming stretch of games won't offer them much of a reprieve. Detroit is averaging a league-worst 81.4 points per game away from home this season, which doesn't bode well for coach Lawrence Frank's squad, considering they play three straight games on the road to open the scoring period. The Pistons' two home games could also prove to be challenging as the Hornets are ranked in the Top 10 in points allowed, while Milwaukee has held its last five opponents to an average of 92.4 points per game.
However, with so many games crammed into so few days, Frank will likely have to go to his bench a bit more, making this a good week for Fantasy owners to give some of Detroit's lower-end Fantasy options some run. In addition to the obvious choices of Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey and Knight, owners should consider rolling with Tayshaun Prince in most formats. Even Jonas Jerebko and Austin Daye could be worth using in deeper formats.
Here are the other teams with schedules that could help make those tough decisions a bit easier:
Pacific: Golden State Warriors (SAC, UTA, @SAC): The Warriors are slated to only play three times during Week 6, although they will only face two different teams over that stretch. Golden State will face the Kings twice over the next seven days, starting on Tuesday night at home. After another home game against the Jazz on Thursday, the Warriors will close out the scoring period on Saturday night with their second matchup of the week against Sacramento -- this time on the road. While this is the second straight week that Golden State is slated to play just three games, the Warriors look to have some favorable matchups on the docket. Both the Kings and Jazz are ranked near the bottom of the pack in points allowed this season and Stephen Curry and Co. will get to face both at home, where they are averaging 95.8 points per game. Golden State's lone road game will come against the defensively challenged Kings, who enter the scoring period allowing a league-worst 102.3 points per game. Despite the Warriors' recent light schedule, owners should feel free to roll with most of Golden State's main Fantasy options this week. Curry, Monta Ellis, David Lee and Dorell Wright should be left active in the majority of formats.

Northwest: Denver Nuggets (@MEM, LAC, LAL, POR): The Nuggets should be one of the more rested teams heading into Week 6 after playing just three games over the last nine days. However, things will begin to ramp up for Denver this week, as it is slated to play four times during the scoring period, including a stretch of three games over three consecutive nights. The Nuggets, who will be the first team to play a second triple set this season, will start off the week with a matchup against the Grizzlies on Tuesday night. After a day off on Wednesday, coach George Karl and his squad will be in Los Angeles on Thursday for a game against the Clippers. The Nuggets will then close out the scoring period against the Lakers on Friday night before playing their third road game of the period against the Trail Blazers on Saturday. While fatigue could become a factor with all that travel, Denver has already scored more than 100 points this year against three of the four opponents it will face next week. The only team Denver has yet to face is Memphis, which is allowing just under 93 points per contest. Fantasy owners should feel free to roll with the majority of Denver's Fantasy options this week, including Danilo Gallinari, Ty Lawson, Nene, Andre Miller.

Southwest: Memphis Grizzlies (SA, DEN, @ATL, @OKC, @BOS): Memphis is one of the two teams slated to play five times during Week 6, with three of those matchups coming on the road. After starting the week with a pair of home games against the Spurs and Nuggets on Monday and Tuesday night, the Grizzlies will be on the road for the remainder of the scoring period. Memphis will take on the Hawks on Thursday before facing the Thunder on Friday night. The Grizzlies will then wrap up the scoring period on Sunday afternoon with a contest against the Celtics. While Denver is ranked near the bottom of the pack in terms of points allowed, both Atlanta and Boston are ranked in the Top 10 in the same category, while the Spurs and Thunder were both able to hold Memphis under 100 points in their previous meetings this season. This could make for some low-scoring, grind-it-out affairs for coach Lionel Hollins' squad, which will have played nine games over a 14-day span when all is said and done. However, most of Memphis' main Fantasy options should be able to get their numbers, including Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. Even O.J Mayo, Marreese Speights and Tony Allen could be worth using in deeper formats.

Central: Cleveland Cavaliers (BOS, @ORL, DAL): After playing four games in each of the last two weeks, the Cavaliers are one of the few teams scheduled to play just three times during Week 6. Cleveland will start the week with a game against the Celtics at home on Tuesday night before getting the next two days off. Kyrie Irving and crew will then close out the scoring period with a back-to-back set against the Magic and Mavericks on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. All three teams Cleveland will face over the next seven days are ranked in the Top 10 in points allowed, while Boston and Dallas are both allowing less than 90 points per game this season. Points could be tough to come by for the Cavaliers this week, so Fantasy owners may want to leave most of their Fantasy options on the bench. Only Kyrie Irving, Antawn Jamison and Anderson Varejao are worth starting in the majority of formats during Week 6.

Atlantic: New York Knicks (DET, CHI, @BOS, NJ): The Knicks are coming off a tough week which included three straight road defeats and the loss of Carmelo Anthony to an assortment of minor injuries. New York is slated to play four times during Week 6, including its only set of back-to-back-to-back games of the season. The Knicks will play at home three times over the next seven days, starting on Tuesday night against the Pistons. New York will then begin its triple set as Derrick Rose and the Bulls come to town on Thursday night. Anthony and Co. will be in Boston on Friday for a matchup against the Celtics before wrapping up the week against the Nets on Saturday night. Both Detroit and New Jersey rank among the worst in the league in points allowed this season, while Chicago and Boston are both ranked in the Top 5. That should, if nothing else, make for some intriguing matchups for the Knicks, who are still trying to find their identity at both ends. With such an interesting mix of teams on the docket, no one is really sure what to expect from New York this week. Other than must-starts Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire -- when healthy -- Tyson Chandler may be the only other Fantasy option worth starting in the majority of formats this week.

Southeast: Atlanta Hawks (@TOR, MEM, PHI): The Hawks are one of the few teams slated to play just three times during Week 6. Atlanta will start the week on the road against the Raptors on Tuesday night before battling the Grizzlies on Thursday night at home. After a day off, coach Larry Drew's squad will close out the scoring period against the 76ers on Saturday night. While Atlanta has been very efficient on offense thus far, all three teams it will face this week have been very stingy on defense, which could make points hard to come by. Both Toronto and Memphis are ranked just outside the top 10 in points allowed this season, while Philadelphia is currently tied with the Bulls for the top spot, yielding 87 points per contest. Fantasy owners should really only feel comfortable rolling with Joe Johnson, Josh Smith and maybe fast riser Jeff Teague during the upcoming scoring period.
