Cavaliers shooting guard Mike Miller isn't doing a whole lot of accurate shooting these days. But David Blatt appears unconcerned.

Miller is shooting just 26 percent from the field and 2 for 13 on 3-pointers in the preseason. He is a career 40 percent shooter from distance. Blatt, however, is citing the on-court combinations as one reason for his problems.

"We didn't have a lot of opportunities to put Mike on the floor with the kind of lineups that are good for him," Blatt told the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "That will be something we'll be thinking about between now and the time the season starts, because he has a lot to offer us. It's on us to sort of find the combinations that will allow him to play in his normal fashion."

What was speculated has become official -- Anderson Varejao is the starting center for the Cavaliers and Tristan Thompson will come off the bench, according to the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Both players performed well in exhibition play, but Varejao provides more of an interior defensive presence and has improved his offensive game markedly. Thompson has also become a greater offensive threat, but is considered more of a power forward on defense.

News
Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love believes he needs more touches closer to the basket than he has received recently to maximize his contributions to his new team.

"My entire life I've played the game from inside-out," Love told the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "So the more touches I can get inside to get myself going, the better. I'm not accustomed to starting out a game shooting a three, so it's just something that I see.

"I'm 26 years old and I've been playing basketball for quite a long time. Just finding ways to mix it up. If anything, keeping it around the basket a little bit more and the offense will allow me to get offensive rebounds. That will be tough for teams with Andy [Varejao] and myself and Tristan [Thompson] in there."

Love has been parking himself beyond the arc more often in the preseason and has struggled with his shot in recent games. His shooting ability creates space for such offensive talents as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters, but David Blatt has expressed his understanding that Love also thrives in post-up situations that result in higher-percentage shots.

David Blatt will use the Wednesday night preseason finale against Memphis to evaluate players on the fringe of roster inclusion. Among them are Cavaliers guard A.J. Price and rookie center Alex Kirk.

"We're going to see how the game develops, but I would like to see these guys on the floor a little bit," Blatt told the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Price has excelled, particularly with his outside shooting, while Kirk has also been a pleasant surprise.
