News
Mavericks guard Monta Ellis scored a team-high 26 points on 11 of 21 shooting in his team's 101-100 loss to the Spurs in Tuesday's regular-season opener.

Ellis also contributed six assists, four rebounds and one steal while making one of his two three-point attempts in 37 minutes of action. The guard made shot 45.1 percent during the regular season last year while averaging 19 points in about 37 minutes per game, so Tuesday's performance qualifies as a plus offensive night for the 10th-year player. The Mavericks are set to face the Jazz Thursday.

News
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle expressed no concern about forward Chandler Parsons after the free-agent signee struggled in his first game with his new team Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reports.

"He’s going to be fine," Carlisle said. "I like an awful lot of the things he did do. It’s one game. He’ll bounce back on Thursday and we’re all going to play better."

Parsons scored five points on just 2 of 10 shooting while adding four rebounds, two steals and one block in 34 minutes of action as the Mavericks lost to the Spurs. "It was just one of those games," Parsons said. "It sucks to play that way in the first one, but it’s only one of 82 games. It’s going to take some time getting used to playing with everybody. It was one of those nights where I couldn’t get anything to fall. I just gotta be better. I took good shots. I missed a couple cheapies at the rim and a couple wide-open threes. I ‘ll take those every game."

The Mavericks face the Jazz Thursday in their next game.
