News
Mavericks shooting guard Monta Ellis scored a team-high 19 points on 9 of 14 shooting in his team's 104-87 loss to the Hawks Wednesday.

The Mavericks had just two-fifths of the team's regular starting lineup, with Rajon Rondo (suspension), Tyson Chandler (hip) and Chandler Parsons (ankle) sidelined, and with Dirk Nowitzki scoring just four points, the Mavericks couldn't generate enough offense to hang with the Hawks despite ending the first quarter up 34-22.

Despite the struggling offense, Ellis was able to deliver his most efficient shooting performance since going 15 for 23 against the Spurs in late December. He also chipped in two rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes in the loss. The Mavericks will square off with the Nets Saturday.

Suspension - Eligible to return Feb. 28 vs. Brooklyn (Updated - 2/25/15)
News
Celtics president Danny Ainge said in an interview on 98.5 FM The Sports Hub in Boston on Thursday that he wasn't surprised by Rajon Rondo's heated exchange with Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle during Tuesday's win over the Raptors, per CelticsHub.com.

"I know that Rondo is an emotional guy and feisty," Ainge said. "None of it really surprises me."

Rondo won a championship in 2008 with the Celtics and was shipped from Boston to Dallas in December to play out the final year of his contract. He served a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team after reportedly jawing twice with Carlisle -- in-game and again in the locker room after the game -- on Tuesday.

Carlisle stressed the importance of having Rondo back in the lineup for Dallas despite his suspension on Thursday, per ESPN. He will practice Friday and return to the floor on Saturday against the Nets. The embattled point guard has averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 25 games since being traded to the Mavericks.

"I want to stress and reiterate how important Rajon Rondo is to the Dallas Mavericks," Carlisle said. "For us to get where we want to get and we strive to get this season, his abilities have to be utilized by us the best possible way. That's in large part my responsibility, and I do not dodge that."

Mavericks small forward Chandler Parsons is making headway with his sprained left ankle and will be re-evaluated Friday, coach Rick Carlisle said, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Parsons, who is averaging 15.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 54 games, did not participate in shootaround while dealing with a fever. He was expected to miss up to three games with the ankle injury.

News
Mavericks center Tyson Chandler has been ruled out of Wednesday's game at Atlanta, reports the team's official website.

Chandler has been dealing with a hip issue, but Wednesday's contest will be the first game he has missed because of the injury. In 56 games, he is averaging 10.6 points and 11.7 rebounds. Center Greg Smith should see an increase in minutes with Chandler out.

The Mavericks are 7-point underdogs.
