News
The Pistons may have left Josh Smith without a job Monday, but their decision to waive their free agency prize from the 2013 offseason will have a positive impact on at least one player: fellow forward Greg Monroe. The fit between the two was always awkward, but Fantasy owners should expect Monroe to flourish now, as I wrote at the Fantasy Basketball Today blog:

"Smith led the team with a 25.3 percent usage rate this season, while Monroe ranked second at 24.0, however Monroe's number shrank to 21.9 percent when he shared the floor with Smith, per NBAWowy.com. Monroe posted a 55.0 percent True Shooting percentage in 281 minutes without Smith, compared to 52.9 percent with him.

Monroe should see a huge boost in his Fantasy value moving forward, especially since he should be able to do more facilitating; remember, he averaged 3.5 assists per game in the final season before Smith arrived. He could be a must-start Fantasy option before long, so this might be your last chance to buy low."

Monroe is already owned in 100 percent of CBSSports.com leagues, so it's not like you'll be able to run out and grab him after this news. However, you should view him as much more valuable than he was even a week ago, and might be someone you look at as a good trade target right now.

News
The Pistons' decision to part ways with Josh Smith doesn't seem like it will impact Andre Drummond all that much, though there are some numbers Fantasy owners should take into consideration, as I detailed at the Fantasy Basketball Today blog Monday:

"The news is less obviously positive for Andre Drummond, who has seen his game fall off a bit across the board this season. He has a paltry 48.9 percent True Shooting percentage while sharing the floor with Smith, a huge dropoff from the 59.9 percent mark he posted overall a year ago. However, that is still better than the 46.1 percent mark he has in 246 minutes with Smith.

For all of Drummond's physical abilities, he is still trying to figure out the best way to harness them. He has been assisted on 55.0 percent of his makes this season, no player assisted him more often than Smith; 16.8 percent of Drummond's made baskets came off a Smith assist.

Still, Monroe is a solid passer for a big man, and he assisted on 28.3 percent of Drummond's made baskets when the duo shared the floor when Drummond was a rookie in 2012-13. Monroe isn't nearly the all-around player Blake Griffin is, but watching he and DeAndre Jordan figure out how to work together is proof that two big men without long-range shooting ability can fit, if they work on the right skills."

The good news for Drummond owners is, coach Stan Van Gundy doubled down on his pledge to develop Drummond as an offensive centerpiece last weekend. Drummond's development has come in fits and starts this season, but he'll keep getting opportunities, which is good news, even if he struggled at times while figuring things out.
