Illness - Doubtful for start of season (Updated - 9/29/14)
News
The Pistons announced that center Aaron Gray is expected to miss training camp while rehabbing from a cardiac episode suffered following a voluntary workout in late August, per Sports Illustrated. Gray, who signed a two-year deal with the Pistons in the offseason, is seeking medical  advice from cardiac specialists to determine a timetable for return.

News
Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy indicated Wednesday forward Jonas Jerebko will be part of a 10-man rotation this season.

"We'll play at least nine on a nightly basis but probably 10 a lot, based on the way Jonas has played in September and in camp," Van Gundy said after Wednesday's morning practice, per the team's official website. "I've been really happy (with him). Nobody put more time in here this summer than Jonas did. Because of his play with the national team in years past, he's never really been able to devote as much time to his own development and his own game. He's gotten stronger. He's in tremendous shape.

"I think the key to Jonas -- and we talked about this early on -- is he has to get back to being the guy he was when he first came into the league, that hungry guy playing with incredible energy, trying to make his spot. What we've seen in September, he looks like a guy who is committed to being a high-energy guy."

News
Pistons guard Brandon Jennings added weight in the offseason, most of which he lost when he had his jaw wired shut at the beginning of last season. He's hoping the added weight and strength will help him defensively this season, per the Oakland Press.

"I didn't put on 25 pound of muscle or anything like that. I just gained my weight back and I'm excited at the weight I'm at," Jennings said. "I think more on the defensive end it's going to help a lot, just fighting through screens, being tougher and just taking on that challenge on the defensive end. Offensively, it's going to help me hold up more during the season."

News
Pistons forward Greg Monroe has explained his side of the contract squabble in which he turned down a sizeable offer from the team in favor of a one-year deal that could allow him to leave next July.

"It's no disrespect to the people working here but it was just tough for me to agree to another four years with new people," he told the Detroit News. "Honestly, if you were to ask the average person would they do that in the arena they're in, they'd say no."

Monroe made certain to explain that his decision was not a slam against the city or fans.

"When talking about leaving Detroit, it was the team specifically," he said. "I have no problem with the city, or the fans or the people. I don't have a problem with anyone here. I've been received with open arms. People have always shown me love. Fans, they've stuck with us through hard times."

Monroe has been one of the bright lights in a sea of darkness. He has averaged 15-16 points and 9-10 rebounds per game in each of the last three seasons.

News
Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy spoke highly Wednesday about second-year guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to the team's official website.

"You always look at players first to their strengths, where can a guy be great," Van Gundy said. "I think he can be an elite defender in this league at the two guard and we’ll look for that every night. I think he is a high-energy guy who can get up and down the floor and attack the basket in transition. Those two things have got to be his foundation."

Caldwell-Pope averaged 24 points per game in the Summer League. However, he's still not at the stage in his career where the Pistons are counting on him to be one of their top scorers.

"On the offensive end, he’s going to have to slow down a little bit, get under control, and like a lot of people it will come down to how many shots he can make, how efficient he can be shooting the ball, how consistent can you be," Van Gundy said. "But I think he’s got a great foundation with the defense and energy that will get him on the floor and give him a chance to develop in those other areas."

News
Because of a knee injury, Pistons rookie point guard Spencer Dinwiddie will take part in most of training camp, but will be monitored and limited in certain activities, head coach Stan Van Gundy told the Detroit Free-Press on Tuesday.

"He has been good, he has been able to do a lot," Van Gundy said. "He just hasn't been able to do anything live. Spencer has been diligent about his rehab. He has joined in a lot of stuff, conditioning-wise. The good part is he has been able to do things where we are teaching."
