Despite losing amazing playmakers at every level of the defense (Drake Nevis, Kelvin Sheppard, and Patrick Peterson) the Tiger defense should still be one of the top taken in every draft this year. Defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery combined for 11.5 tackles for loss last year. Linebacker Ryan Baker is back after leading the Tigers with seven sacks. In the secondary, LSU will not miss a beat with Peterson gone as Morris Claiborne is manning one corner spot after tallying five picks last season. Opposite him will be playmaking defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who as a true freshman last season had 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and five forced fumbles despite playing at nickel back.
