Boise State's Southwick Has Starting QB Job: Coach Chris Petersen said the starting quarterback job is Joe Southwick's but also said "it's always going to be a competition," Chadd Cripe of the Idaho Statesman reports.

This seems to be a tactic by Petersen to keep his quarterback in check. As a junior this season, Joe Southwick threw for 2,730 yards with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

| Joe Southwick will need to hold off Nick Patti for the starting Boise State quarterback spot, but he's generally the favorite to win that role heading into the fall. After sitting behind Kellen Moore the past two years, Southwick has had enough time to get a good grasp on the Boise State system, and his limited playing time (400 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while averaging 7.4 YPA) has been promising. Given his generally blank slate and uncertain role, however, Southwick is a player to monitor for the most part. (Updated 8/30/12) |
