| Fantasy Analysis |
Considering Rio Johnson threw three interceptions in the first half at South Carolina, this is not all that surprising. When one also takes into account the fact that Carden battled Johnson for the starting job for much of camp, the decision makes even more sense. Johnson can now be safely dropped in all leagues as he has no value, while watching the from the sideline. There is the possibility that Carden struggles and Johnson is reinserted into the lineup, but one has to wonder how much he can help fantasy owners with his confidence already shook and the coaching staff not fully behind him. (Updated 9/10/12). |
| Rio Johnson is expected to start at quarterback for East Carolina in 2012, and the team's extremely pass-heavy approach makes him an interesting fantasy option in that case. The problem is Johnson was unimpressive off the bench last year, averaging just 5.4 yards per pass while throwing one interception and no touchdowns on 29 passes. The Pirates lost their top receiver from last year (Lance Lewis), as well. In an offense that threw 43.7 passes per game last year, though, Johnson should be owned in Conference-USA-only leagues and is a justifiable pick in other leagues, too. (Updated 8/30/12) |
