Jared Barnett has struggled for most of his time as a starter and looks like Steele Jantz may be back in the top spot soon.

| Jared Barnett played nine games as a freshman last season and doubled as both a runner and a passer, throwing 24.4 times per game and running 11.6 times per game. Barnett will compete with senior Steele Jantz for the starting spot for the second consecutive year after losing the competition in 2011. Jantz was ineffective, however, and Iowa State proved to be competitive with Barnett's rushing skills on the field. If Barnett can beat Steele for the starting spot, he could be effective in early season games against Tulsa and Western Illinois, at least. (Updated 8/30/12) |
