Rocco Granted Release From Virginia: Michael Rocco has left the Virginia football team, Roanoke Times writer Douglas Doughty reports.

It's not clear where Michael Rocco might be headed. In a very disappointing year for Virginia, Rocco threw for 1,917 yards (7.2 YPA), 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Phillip Sims figures to be the team's primary quarterback going forward.

| Michael Rocco threw for 2,671 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season, but despite those weak numbers, he was previously expected to start for Virginia in 2012. Alabama transfer Phillip Sims, however, will be eligible to play immediately and could take the starting job from Rocco. (Updated 8/30/12) |
