De'Andre Johnson was let go after two incidents with police the past week (speeding and disorderly conduct). His departure makes the running back depth chart at Iowa wide open with freshmen Greg Garmon or Barkley Hill perhaps moving quickly into a starting role.

| Opportunity awaits De'Andre Johnson in Iowa's unproven backfield, but it's not clear just where he stands in that running back rotation after a nondescript 2011 freshman season in which he ran for just 79 yards (4.4 YPC). Incoming freshman Greg Garmon seems more talented than Johnson, but even Garmon's status is unclear due to a June marijuana arrest. Johnson is generally just a player to monitor. (Updated 8/30/12) |
