Ralph David Abernathy may be the starting running back for the Bearcats next year. He has speed to spare, but he is just 5-7 and 161 pounds. The Belk Bowl was the first time this season that Abernathy did not have a rushing attempt. He finished the season with 366 yards rushing and 351 yards receiving with seven combined touchdowns. (Updated 12/27/12). |
| Ralph Abernathy is the favorite to win the starting running back job, but a multi-back, platoon situation could certainly emerge. With the departure of 1,300-yard back George Winn, Abernathy IV is the most experienced returnee. He carried the ball 69 times for 366 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and three touchdowns last season. Jameel Poteat and Tion Green are other candidates to receive some carries in 2013, and the Bearcats also signed a pair of junior-college backs who could make an impact. (Updated 6/11/13) |
