The Running Rebels shut down the Gopher offense for most of regulation, but James Gillum scored Minnesota's lone touchdown in regulation on a 16-yard second quarter run. As long as Gillum continues to split carries, his value is limited and anchored to his ability to find the end zone.

| James Gillum is a junior college transfer who the Gophers are excited about, and despite his lack of recruiting pedigree he might be able to earn a big role off the bat at Minnesota, because the program badly lacks talent at running back. The team's top returning runner is Donnell Kirkwood, who averaged just 3.6 yards per carry last year as he totaled 229 yards and three scores on the ground. Gillum is worth a late pick in Big Ten-only leagues, in any case, but not much more. (Updated 8/30/12) |
