WVU's Defense Shuts Down Kansas

News: WVU allowed just 274 yards and 10 points in their 59-10 win against Kansas on Saturday. They had one interception.
Analysis: The Mountaineers finally put together a solid defensive performance. Too bad it was against one of the worst teams in all of college football.

WVU's Defense Gives Up 24 Points to Iowa State

News: WVU gave up 396 yards in their 31-24 win at Iowa State on Friday. They also recovered a fumble.
Analysis: The West Virginia defense didn't do anything spectacular in the game, but it was one of their better performances of the year.

WVU's Defense Gives Up 660 Yards to Oklahoma

News: WVU's defense surrendered 50 points on 660 yards in their loss against Oklahoma on Saturday. They also recorded an interception and a fumble recovery.
Analysis: The 38 points allowed to TCU on Nov. 3 was the least amount of points given up by the WVU defense in Big 12 play.

WVU's Defense Gashed by Oklahoma State

News: West Virginia surrendered 439 yards and 55 points in their 55-34 loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday. They recorded two sacks and had one interception.
Analysis: The season-long struggle continues for one of the nation's worst defenses.

West Virginia's Defense Turns TCU Over Three Times

News: West Virginia had three sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception in their 39-38 loss to TCU in 2OT on Saturday.
Analysis: Before surrendering a 94-yard touchdown pass late in the 4th quarter, WVU was actually playing their best defensive game of the season.

WVU's Defense No Match For Collin Klein and K-State

News: West Virginia gave up 55 points on 472 yards in their loss to Kansas State on Saturday.
Analysis: The Mountaineers had but one sack to show for in another terrible defensive performance.

WVU's Defense Torched Against Texas Tech

News: West Virginia surrendered 674 yards of offense and 49 points in their 49-14 loss at Texas Tech on Saturday. They recorded one sack, one fumble recovery and one interception.
Analysis: This porous defense has given up more than 500 yards in three games this season.

WVU's Defense Gives Up 400 Yards To Texas

News: WVU gave up 404 yards and recovered a fumble in their 48-45 win at Texas on Saturday. They also recorded a sack.
Analysis: It had to get better than the stinker they put up against Baylor a week ago, but this defense still has a long way to go to be relevant in the fantasy world.

WVU's Defense Gives Up Nearly 700 Yards to Baylor

News: WVU gave up 63 points and 698 yards in their 70-63 win against Baylor on Saturday. They also recorded three sacks and one interception.
Analysis: They shouldn't get gashed this badly next week when they travel to Austin to play the Longhorns, but regardless, they aren't a defense worth considering at this point.

West Virginia's Defense Scores Against Maryland

News: West Virginia held Maryland to 21 points on 367 yards in their 31-21 win on Saturday. They also scored on a 51-yard fumble recovery in the 1st Quarter.
Analysis: The Mountaineers recovered two fumbles and intercepted Maryland once, but got burned on a few big pass plays, surrendering three touchdowns through the air.

West Virginia's Defense Quiets James Madison

News: West Virginia allowed 300 yards, recorded four sacks and had one interception in their 42-12 win over James Madison on Saturday.
Analysis: Two of James Madison's 12 points came on a safety, and the touchdown came with a minute to go in the game. It was a nice bounce back game for the Mountaineers' D after giving up over 500 yards to Marshall two weeks ago.

West Virginia's Defense Surrenders over 500 Yards Against Marshall

News: West Virginia surrendered 34 points and 545 total yards in their 69-34 win over Marshall on Saturday
Analysis: They were able to record one fumble recovery, one INT and one sack, but they gave up 24 2nd half points in garbage time. Look for the Mountaineers to have a better performance in two weeks when they host James Madison.

WVU defense forces five turnovers

News: West Virginia had a good game defensively after a slow start against Bowling Green on Saturday, forcing five turnovers in what would finish as a 55-10 win. WVU picked off three Matt Schilz passes and recovered two fumbles.
Analysis: The Mountaineers didn't score any points on defense, but the turnover number is a good sign with UConn coming up next week. They've got a good shot at winning that turnover battle as well.

WVU nose guard Wright could begin practice

News: Mixed news for West Virginia on the roster front, as nose guard Jorge Wright could be reinstated in time for the start of fall camp on Friday. Wright, who finished spring drills at the top of the depth chart at the position, was suspended due to charges of possession of marijuana and a gun just before the spring game.
Analysis: With Chris Neild having graduated the presence of Wright would be critical for a defense that's lost a number of key contributors. If Wright can pick up where he left off pre-arrest, West Virginia could be better defensively than some expect.

Three Mountaineer recruits are no-shows

News: While star recruits like Andrew Buie and Terrell Roberts are on campus ready to move up the depth chart, the Mountaineers had three commits who didn't make it to Morgantown.  They are offensive lineman Justin Johnson, linebacker Shaq Petteway, and defensive lineman Ben Bradley.
Analysis: It appears that the three athletes are hammering out academic issues.

Mountaineer Defense Looks Bad Against Marshall

News:
Analysis: West Virginia allowed 21 points and recovered a fumble against Marshall Friday. We're quite low on West Virginia after this performance, but it's also possible that Marshall just overachieved. If they don't play better against Maryland, then we'll be close to giving up.

WVU 'D' Gives Up 24

News: West Virginia gave up 24 points to UConn on Saturday.
Analysis: Tavon Austin took the opening kickoff back for the Mountaineers, so that's positive for leagues that credit special teams work with team defense. UConn put up over 500 yards of total offense, however, which is the bad news.

Mountaineer 'D' Limits Orange

News: Syracuse could manage just 13 second-half points Saturday against the West Virginia defense.
Analysis: WVU held the Orange below 225 yards of total offense over the weekend. West Virginia hosts Marshall on Saturday.
