Utah's Christopher Nets 62 Yards / TD in Loss to USC
News:DeVonte Christopher grabbed five passes for 62 yards and a touchdown Thursday night as Utah fell to Southern California 38-28 at home in Salt Lake City.
Analysis:DeVonte Christopher posted his best game of the season in Thursday's loss to the Trojans, but has totaled just 14 catches for 145 yards and a score to this point in the year.
Christopher re-emerges with five catches, 83 yards
News: Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher got back in the groove Saturday, collecting five catches for 83 yards in the win over Washington State.
Analysis: Christopher has been somewhat quiet after coming back from injury, but in the cold and snowy conditions of the Palouse, he came through with key catches.
News: Utah's top receiver, DeVonte Christopher, had a decent outing Saturday, catching three passes for 79 yards and a scintillating 65-yard scoring play.
Analysis: As you can see, without the 65-yarder, Christopher's numbers would have been pretty pedestrian. He'll be hampered some the rest of the way by quarterback Jon Hays' youthful inexperience. He's one of the Pac-12's best, but it may be hard to tell moving forward.
News: Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher is expected to play this weekend against Oregon State after missing the past two games with an ankle injury.
Analysis: Christopher almost got the go-ahead to play last week, but the medical staff decided he needed a little more time. His return will provide this offense with a big-play guy and dependable target for young quarterback Jon Hays.
News: Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher (ankle) did not travel with the team to play Cal today.
Analysis: With Christopher and quarterback Jordan Wynn (shoulder) out, running back John White will have to carry the load for the Utes once again.
News: Utah receiver Luke Matthews corralled the only touchdown pass in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Matthews had only two catches, but got 39 yards for his trouble and did a nice job filling in for the injured DeVonte Christopher.
News:Dres Anderson led the Utah receiving corps with four catches for 43 yards in Saturday's win.
Analysis: With DeVonte Christopher left at home, the Utes needed some other people to step forward. Anderson was a nice target for starter Jon Hays.
News: Utah is now permanently without quarterback Jordan Wynn, but could also be without star receiver DeVonte Christopher this weekend against Pittsburgh. Christopher is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is considered questionable at best to make it to game time.
Analysis: Arguably Utah's biggest offensive weapon, not having Christopher just makes things harder for this offense and young quarterback Jon Hays.
News: With starting quarterback Jordan Wynn sidelined and JC transfer Jon Hays about to start, the Utah offensive coaching staff is looking at DeVonte Christopher as a guy who could help out. Christopher came to Utah as a quarterback.
Analysis: The Utes are looking at some "wildcat" formations and other ways for Hays to get the ball to his playmakers, including Christopher. That may mean lining Christopher up behind center and doing some different things.
News: Utah is looking for a receiver to help take the pressure off their top guy, DeVonte Christopher. They may have found it in freshman Dres Anderson, who snagged six catches for 77 yards against USC.
Analysis: While this is not the Trojans secondary of a few years ago, there are more than enough athletes back there to give every team's receiver fits. Anderson just kept coming up with clutch catches and may have made a stab at being this team's No. 2 option.
News: Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher found the end zone in Thursday's win over Montana State, but he didn't do much else. Christopher had but two catches for 11 total yards in the season opener.
Analysis: Boy, that's not what people were expecting. While the touchdown is nice, the catch and yardage totals are certainly nowhere near what the football fans were hoping to see. Game two needs to bring a little more or some warning bells will be going off.
News: Utah's DeVonte Christopher may have arrived as a quarterback, but he's blossomed as a receiver. The Utes leading returning receiver has set his goals pretty high this season -- one of the top wide receivers in the Pac-12. "That's my goal this year -- to be one of the best."
Analysis: Christopher steps into 2012 wanting to be quarterback Jordan Wynn's go-to guy and coach Kyle Whittingham sees no reason why that can't happen. Christopher is a fun combination of speed, quickness, long arms and athleticism. Now with a year under his belt, it's easy to see him improve on the 660 yards and six scores of 2010.
News: Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher is expected back sometime this week after sitting for a number of practices with an ankle injury.
Analysis: The Utes have begun pregame preparations, so the return of Christopher will be important. He's the proven receiving option for quarterback Jordan Wynn, a guy who can take short passes and make magic with them. Look for his return and how well he gets back into the rhythm of practice.
News: Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher showed again that he'll be a prime target no matter who is quarterbacking. Christopher led all receivers in Thursday's scrimmage with four catches for 103 yards.
Analysis: Christopher continues to fly under the radar in the Pac-12, but he's going to have a big, big season as long as Wynn stays healthy. His production in the scrimmage was no accident. Take note.
News: After Friday's practice, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham singled out the play of receivers DeVonte Christopher and Reggie Dunn. While Christopher is a proven performer, the emergence of Dunn has been a nice addition to the mix.
Analysis: Christopher could be one of the Pac-12's more unheralded quality receivers this season, and if Wynn makes the strides everyone is calling for, he'll be a big part of that. Utah was hoping to see some other receiving options develop and Dunn has made progress in that area.
News: Jordan Wynn knows he has his go-to guy in DeVonte Christopher, but he is excited about the emergence of two new guys, one coming off a redshirt and another from junior college. Wynn says redshirt freshman Dres Anderson "had a great spring" while JUCO transfer Anthony Denham, at 6'4, 230 pounds, is a "specimen".
Analysis: Outside of Christopher, no returning receiver has more than 18 receptions which should allow Anderson and Denham to see some throws come their way.
News: As the Utes head into uncharted waters in the Pac-12, the player they can't do without is quarterback Jordan Wynn. Behind Wynn there is not much experience which means it is imperative that he stay healthy and perform. To make matters worse, the Utes graduated Eddie Wide and Matt Asiata at running back with the top options now being a junior college transfer, a true freshman, and a former rugby player.
Analysis: If Terrance Cain were still around, Wynn would not be so crucial to the Utes' success but now they can't afford to have him go down. Wynn is not going to blow anyone away with his arm or mobility. Wynn is only required to be a game manager, which means somebody will need to step up in the run game to keep pressure off Wynn and receiver DeVonte Christopher.
News: Christopher finished with four catches for 31 yards as Utah fell to Notre Dame Saturday in South Bend.
Analysis: Despite his limited production against the Irish, Christopher remains a solid fantasy option.
News: Christopher caught six passes for 67 yards in Utah's blowout loss to TCU Saturday.
Analysis: Although he did lose a fumble, Christopher showed he had the ability to find openings against arguably the best defense in college football. His production in recent weeks has clearly vaulted him over Jereme Brooks as the Utes' best go-to option.
News: Christopher put together his third-consecutive strong outing Saturday, finishing with five catches for 111 yards and a touchdown against Colorado State.
Analysis: Christopher has emerged as Utah's biggest receiving threat in recent weeks. He should be a strong fantasy asset moving forward this season.
News: Christopher totaled three receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown as Utah defeated Wyoming 30-6 Saturday.
Analysis: Christopher looks to be on the right track after a bit of an early-season slump. Jerome Brooks remains the best fantasy option on the Utes, but Christopher's stock is rising.
News: After contributing little in recent weeks, Christopher totaled six catches for 124 yards and a touchdown in Utah's 68-27 win over Iowa State.
Analysis: Christopher's fantasy value still isn't great, but his big-play potential makes him worth watching in the coming weeks.
News: Christopher caught just one pass for six yards as Utah thrashed San Jose State.
Analysis: Christopher is a legitimate big-play threat, but his fantasy value seems to be on the decline.
Utah's Christopher Makes a Big Play in Win Over New Mexico
News: Christopher caught two passes for 55 yards in Utah's win over New Mexico, including a 33-yard touchdown from reception from Terrance Cain.
Analysis: Christopher is an interesting fantasy prospect who could enjoy increased success this season as opposing defenses focus on stopping Jerome Brooks.
News: After a huge game in the opener against Pittsburgh, Christopher caught just one pass for eight yards in Utah's win over UNLV Saturday.
Analysis: One quiet game shouldn't be enough to push Christopher off the radar. He remains the Utes' No. 2 target and should have plenty of big games this season.
News: Christopher was Jordan Wynn's top target in Utah's overtime win over Pittsburgh Thursday, catching eight passes for 155 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown.
Analysis: A former quarterback recruit, Christopher could be a good option if he builds on this effort.
News: Christopher, a redshirt quarterback last year, has been playing at wide receiver since the spring and is making his way into the rotation at wideout for 2009, the Deseret News reports.
Analysis: "He's made it a good transition because of his attitude," head coach Kyle Whittingham states. "He's got an excellent work ethic. He's the same guy every day. That's big in our program." Receivers coach Aaron Roderick adds to such sentiment, saying, "DeVonte's got the ability to be a very good wide receiver. He's a really smart kid. He's a quarterback and a really bright guy. He understands the whole offense and he knows the protections."
