Stanford's Hewitt Nets 52 Yards Receiving, TD in Win Over Oregon St.
News:Ryan Hewitt grabbed four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown Saturday as Stanford edged out Oregon State 27-23 at home.
Analysis:Ryan Hewitt hasn't done much to this point in the season, carrying six times for 14 yards and a score and pulling in nine catches for 89 yards and a second score, but had a nice performance Saturday against the Beavers.
News:Ryan Hewitt (ankle) will likely miss Saturday's game against Duke, ESPN reports.
Analysis:Ryan Hewitt could emerge as a factor in deep leagues for which he has tight end eligibility, but he'll obviously need to get on the field before that becomes a possibility.
News: Stanford's tight ends struck again Saturday. Ryan Hewitt and Levine Toilolo each caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter as the Cardinal took control en route to the win over California. Hewitt had seven catches for 64 yards while Toilolo had three catches for 50 yards. Oh, by the way, starting tight end Coby Fleener didn't score, but had another four catches for 64 yards.
Analysis: A week after the tight ends were only marginally used against Oregon, they were back to their normal involvement against California. Amazing to see such a strong group of tight ends on one team -- and it's obvious quarterback Andrew Luck targets them often.
News: Just when you thought you knew all of Stanford's tight ends, another one emerges. Ryan Hewitt caught four passes for 28 yards and two scores Saturday in the win over Colorado. He joined fellow tight ends Coby Fleener (2-41-0), Zach Ertz (4-78-0) and Levine Toilolo (2-37-0) in what was a pretty impressive display.
Analysis: One thing quarterback Andrew Luck won't have to convince NFL scouts of -- he knows how to use his tight ends. Hewitt has the best day, but when the big games comes, look for Fleener and Ertz to be the main tight end guns.
News: Stanford coach David Shaw said that fullback Ryan Hewitt will be more heavily involved in the offense than he was against San Jose State, particularly in the passing game.
Analysis: Hewitt came to Stanford as a tight end, so he's a capable pass catcher. Shaw said Hewitt has "great hands" and that that lends itself to inserting him into the passing game. Expect him to be a target the rest of the season.
