News:Terrance Owens (ankle) did not dress for Tuesday night's game against Akron, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis:Terrance Owens may be ready to go for Toledo's bowl game. He will finish the regular season with 2,677 passing yards with 14 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
News: Coach Matt Campbell said Terrance Owens (ankle) was sidelined at practice for most of last week due to a lingering ankle injury, according to the Toledo Blade.
Analysis: This ankle issue may explain Terrance Owens' lackluster production over a large chunk of the season. If he can't play Tuesday night against Akron, Austin Dantin would get the start.
News:Terrance Owens went 22-for-32 for 265 yards with three interceptions along with 12 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown Wednesday night against Northern Illinois.
Analysis:Terrance Owens has struggled for awhile now, with multiple passing touchdowns only once in his past seven games. Still, he belongs in fantasy lineups next week against Akron in a favorable matchup.
News:Terrance Owens went 14-for-27 for 215 yards and one touchdown along with 66 yards on 13 carries Tuesday night against Ball State.
Analysis:Terrance Owens has still had multiple passing touchdowns once in his past six games, but he still is worth starting in deep leagues next Wednesday against Northern Illinois.
News:Terrance Owens went 12-for-25 for 171 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions along with seven carries for 22 yards Saturday against Buffalo.
Analysis:Terrance Owens remains a fantasy starter despite two straight dismal games, so expect him to improve after Toledo has their bye next week.
News:Terrance Owens went 13-for-24 for 126 yards along with eight carries for 50 yards Saturday night against Cincinnati.
Analysis: With a much easier matchup on the slate for next week against Buffalo, look for Terrance Owens to rebound in a big way.
News:Terrance Owens went 21-for-32 for 401 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, along with six carries for 28 yards and a touchdown, Saturday against Eastern Michigan.
Analysis:Terrance Owens has thrown for over 1,900 yards with 12 passing touchdowns, and also has rushed for four touchdowns this season. He should be started in all fantasy leagues next week against Cincinnati.
Toledo's Owens Rushes For Two Touchdowns vs. Central Michigan
News:Terrance Owens went 23-for-33 for 233 yards with an interception along with 10 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Central Michigan.
Analysis: Despite going back-to-back games without a touchdown pass, Terrance Owens has 12 total touchdowns this season (nine passin). He remains an absolute must-start for his fantasy owners every week.
Toledo's Owens Held Without A Touchdown vs. Western Michigan
News:Terrance Owens went 22-for-33 for 243 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions along with four rushing yards against Western Michigan on Saturday night.
Analysis: Definitely not a great game for Terrance Owens, but he should easily rebound next week against Central Michigan.
News:Terrance Owens (ankle) said he will play Saturday against Western Michigan, the Toledo Blade reports.
Analysis:Terrance Owens has been very productive since becoming the Rockets' full-time starter, and is a must-start for his fantasy owners.
Toledo's Owens Throws Three Touchdowns vs. Coastal Carolina
News:Terrance Owens went 27-for-36 for 290 yards and three touchdowns along with a rushing touchdown against Coastal Carolina on Saturday night.
Analysis:Terrance Owens continues to be productive as Toledo's unquestioned starting quarterback, and is a must-start for his fantasy owners next week against Western Michigan.
Toledo's Owens Throws For 303 Yards vs. Bowling Green
News:Terrance Owens went 20-for-28 for 303 yards and one touchdown along with three rushing yards against Bowling Green on Saturday night.
Analysis:Terrance Owens now has back-to-back 300-yard passing games as Toledo's unquestioned starting quarterback. He has a favorable matchup next week against Coastal Carolina, but Austin Dantin may see some action if the game is a blowout.
Toledo's Owens Earns MAC West Honor, Expected To Start Next Game
News:Terrance Owens has been named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday against Wyoming, and coach Matt Campbell expects him to start Saturday against Bowling Green, according to the Toledo Blade.
Analysis: Fantasy owners now have some clarity with the Toledo quarterback situation with Terrance Owens overtaking Austin Dantin. He is a virtual must-own in all fantasy leagues.
Toledo's Owens Throws For 300 Yards, Four Touchdowns vs. Wyoming
News:Terrance Owens went 25-for-41 for 300 yards with four touchdowns along with 14 carries for 74 yards Saturday against Wyoming.
Analysis:Terrance Owens was the only Toledo quarterback to play in the game. It's unknown if Austin Dantin will see action next week against Bowling Green, but Owens' fantasy stock is on the rise.
News: Coach Matt Campbell said Terrance Owens will start Saturday against Wyoming "if all things are equal" during the week between he and Austin Dantin, according to the Toledo Blade.
Analysis: Dantin started the season opener against Arizona, so it will essentially be Terrance Owens' turn this week. This situation is looking likely to induce headaches for fantasy owners, as both guys may see equal playing time regardless of who starts each game.
Toledo's Owens Throws TD vs. Arizona, Does Not Return After Hit
News:Terrance Owens went 11-for-22 for 134 yards and a touchdown along with six carries for 19 yards at Arizona on Saturday night.
Analysis:Terrance Owens did not return to the game after a hard hit that caused a fumble in the third quarter, so his health bears watching heading into next week against Wyoming.
Announcement Of Toledo Starting QB Postponed Another Day
News: Coach Matt Campbell did not announce a starting quarterback for the season opener against Arizona, but did say Terrance Owens and Austin Dantin will split the first four series of the game, according to the Toledo Blade.
Analysis:Terrance Owens has more fantasy upside than Dantin, but the possibility of inconsistent playing time dampens that a lot.
Toledo's Owens Has Upper Hand to Start Season Opener?
News: Based on his 3-0 record as a starter at the end of the 2011 season, Terrance Owens may have the upper hand to start the season opener against Arizona on September 1, the Toledo Blade reports.
Analysis:Terrance Owens ranked sixth in the country in pass efficiency last season, and his physical tools are superior to co-starter Austin Dantin's. Still, the likelihood of virtually equal playing time puts a ceiling on the fantasy value of both signal callers.
News:Terrance Owens is listed as the co-starter under center on the Rockets' most recent depth chart, according to the Toledo Blade.
Analysis:Terrance Owens and fellow co-starter Austin Dantin are headed for a playing time split again this season, though fantasy owners willing to take a flier on one of them should choose Owens since his physical tools are superior.
News:Terrance Owens is listed as the starting quarterback on the Rockets' most recent depth chart, according to Ryan Autullo of the Toledo Blade.
Analysis:Terrance Owens and Austin Dantin are likely to see significant playing time under center for Toledo this season, which creates a difficult situation for fantasy owners if both stay healthy. But Owens is the more physically gifted of the two and would have greater upside if he secured the starting job due to an injury to Dantin or otherwise.
News: Much like he did with Austin Dantin and Terrence Owens at Toledo, Illinois head coach Tim Beckman says that he will consider using both Reilly O'Toole and Nathan Scheelhaase at quarterback.
Analysis: While it worked for the Rockets, it was incredibly frustrating from a fantasy standpoint so let's just hope he sticks with one.
News: Toledo quarterback Terrence Owens threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns against Ball State.
Analysis: In two games where he hasn't rotated with "starter" Austin Dantin (concussion), Owens has produced 542 yards passing and seven combined touchdowns. Unfortunately, should the Rockets make a bowl game, Dantin should be fully recovered and back to rotating snaps. The Rockets will be a tough opponent for a middle tier BCS opponent, but that'll be little solace to those in bowl challenges.
News: Toledo quarterback Austin Dantin (concussion) is considered day-to-day and his status for Friday's game at Ball State won't be known until later in the week. "He’ll be practicing out there, but of course we’re not going to put him back out there [in a game] with the concussion symptoms,” coach Tim Beckman said. “He just didn’t progress [last week] the way that was necessary. We ended up holding him out of Wednesday’s practice [because] he was having some minor headaches, and we decided we weren’t going to push it.”
Analysis: If Dantin can't go, Terrence Owens will get the start and becomes a good sleeper fantasy play. However, if Dantin plays, the two will likely split snaps, making Owens a high risk/high reward option.
News: Playing as the only quarterback for the first time all season, Toledo signal caller Terrence Owens threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 63 yards and another score against Central Michigan.
Analysis: Starter Austin Dantin (concussion) sat out, and if his symptoms linger, Owens will be a fine championship week play against Ball State.
News: Toledo starting quarterback Austin Dantin left last week's game in the 2nd quarter due to a mild concussion, but is expected to play Friday against Central Michigan.
Analysis: The concussion wasn't formally reported until yesterday, and even head coach Tim Beckham didn't know his quarterback was suffering from head injury last Tuesday. While we certainly aren't wishing injury on anyone, both Dantin and "backup" QB Terrence Owens have proven their value when receiving nearly all of the snaps.
News: Toledo quarterback Terrence Owens tossed for a career-high 318 yards and three touchdowns against Western Michigan.
Analysis: Last week's hot hand, starter Austin Dantin, struggled with decision making before permanently giving way to Owens. Each quarterback has tossed for 300+ yards now in one of the previous two weeks, so we know they are capable. Guessing which will have the hot hand next Friday vs. Central Michigan would be a coin flip however.
News: Toledo quarterback Austin Dantin threw for 322 and five touchdowns against Northern Illinois. He added 55 yards rushing and another touchdown.
Analysis: Backup/co-starter Terrence Owens was just 1 of 3. It's at least the second time this season Dantin has seized control of his offense and posted tremendous numbers. Having said that, I fully expect head coach Tim Beckham to say a rotation will continue in what should be another offensive shootout against Western Michigan next Tuesday.
News: Despite quarterback Austin Dantin taking all the snaps Saturday at Temple, Toledo head coach Tim Beckman insists he will still use both Dantin and Terrence Owens weekly.
Analysis: And with a matchup against lowly Eastern Michigan, why wouldn't he? I've lost patience waiting for a clear #1 to emerge here, and you should too.
News: Toledo quarterback Terrence Owens didn't play Saturday against Temple because of a coach's decision, rather than a back injury, according to head coach Tim Beckman.
Analysis: "We decided to stay with Austin Dantin because Austin was moving the offense," Beckman said. "Our intention was to put T.O. in for the fourth series, but again, I think Austin was doing what we needed him to do and we just decided to stick with Austin." Dantin was 12-of-14, but had just 115 yards on the day. Give this one more week, but if Dantin takes all the snaps against Eastern Michigan, he'll be worth adding as the guy who gets to toss it to Eric Page.
News: Toledo quarterback Austin Dantin was the only signal caller to take snaps Saturday at Temple, completing 12-of-14 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. He ran seven times for just one yard, but scored on the ground as well.
Analysis: Terrence Owens tweaked his back last week against Syracuse, an injury not thought to be serious. Expect the rotation to continue when Owens returns...whenever that might be.
News: Though he played 11 of the final 12 series against Boise State, Toledo quarterback Terrence Owens will continue to rotate with last week's starter Austin Dantin.
Analysis: A starter will be named Wednesday or Thursday, but it's beginning to look like this will be a season long rotation, zapping both quarterbacks' upside. It's a shame too, as one starter here would have some value.
News: Just one day after naming Austin Dantin his starting quarterback, Toledo head coach Tim Beckham said Dantin and Terrence Owens will see snaps for at least the first two games.
Analysis: Beckham now contends he'd like to have a clear starter by the Rockets' third game of the season against Boise State. Anyone who had Dantin as a sleeper option with New Hampshire on this week's docket can now thing again. It's a shame Beckham can't make up his mind, because a true #1 here would have some value.
News: Toldeo released their depth chart Sunday, and Austin Dantin tops Terrence Owens in the battle under center.
Analysis: Dantin is a pretty intruiging option now that he's clearly the starter. He's a dual-threat, scoring eight times last season on the ground, but the early season schedule includes Ohio State and Boise State. After those landminds are cleared, Dantin should definitely be in your thoughts.
News: Toledo head coach Tim Beckham has indicated he isn't likely to name a starter for the season opener until August 31st, just one day before the opener against New Hampshire.
Analysis: Austin Dantin and Terrence Owens continue to battle. With a stud wide receiver in Eric Page, and the MAC schedule to contend with, the winner here has some real fantasy upside. Dantin is more of a dual threat, while Owens can pitch it all over the yard. I like Owens upside, but I'm smelling a dual that heads into the season. After New Hampshire, Toledo gets Ohio State, Boise State and Syracuse. Not exactly a great recipe for a hot start. But come October, the winner here will be a hot waiver commodity
News: Owens completed 16-of-25 passes for 225 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against Bowling Green Wednesday while running for 28 yards.
Analysis: He's looking like an okay start in MAC-only leagues against Central Michigan, but owners in other formats shouldn't take the risk.
News: Owens completed 18-of-38 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against Northern Illinois Tuesday while running for 25 yards.
Analysis: Look for him to do better against Bowling Green, but we can't really recommend him outside of MAC-only leagues at this point.
News: Austin Dantin (shoulder) will likely miss the rest of the season, leaving Owens as Toledo's starting quarterback, the Toledo Blade reports.
Analysis: Owens is a must-own in MAC-only leagues, and he's a very intriguing target for deep league owners who need quarterback help after throwing for four touchdowns against a relatively tough Northern Illinois defense.
News: Owens has made great strides in training camp and is challenging Austin Dantin for the starting quarterback job, the Toledo Blade reports.
Analysis: Dantin is still a heavy favorite for the job, but Owens is a player to watch in case Dantin struggles or is hurt.
