News:Brandon Connette completed his only pass of the Belk Bowl for a two yard touchdown, and added another score on five carries Thursday against Cincinnati.
Analysis:Brandon Connette combined for 10 rushing and passing touchdowns as the Blue Devils wildcat option. Just a sophomore, Connette figures to vulture plenty of scores again next season, and probably can't be ruled out of the competition to replace Sean Renfree either.
Duke's Connette (Shoulder) Questionable v. North Carolina
News:Brandon Connette is nursing an injured shoulder and is considered day-to-day leading up to Saturday's contest with North Carolina, USA Today reports.
Analysis:Brandon Connette, who has now had injuries to both shoulders during his career with the Blue Devils, also missed part of the game at Virginia Tech. His absence limits Duke's overall offensive package, as he's often used in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
News:Brandon Connette ran four times for nine yards and two touchdowns Saturday at Wake Forest.
Analysis: He was 0-for-1 passing, and didnt catch a pass. Starting quarterback Sean Renfree injured his throwing elbow, and should things prove serious, there's a reasonable chance Brandon Connette could actually return to his original position, and then suddenly have real value.
News:Brandon Connette (leg) is listed as questionable on the Blue Devil's injury report, notes Stephen Wiseman of The Herald-Sun.
Analysis: The versatile Brandon Connette is a touchdown machine, but his loss would be much more devestating on the field than in your fantasy lineup. Unless you're in an ACC heavy league facing bye week trouble.
News: Connnette was 0-of-2 passing Saturday against Memphis, but ran six times for 15 yards and a touchdown, and caught three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis:Brandon Connette is a fun, versatile player to watch, but doesn't have much value to your team unless he can get tight end eligibility, a position he has lined up in.
News:Brandon Connette ran for two touchdowns in Duke's final scrimmage of camp notes the school's official site.
Analysis:Brandon Connette has little value as a quarterback, but he could be one of the most interesting players across the land. He's slated to play some quarterback, some wide receiver, some running back and some tight end. Yes, you read that correctly, and he's been contributing across the board this August. If you can get him eligible at any of those other positions, then he's got a chance to help you.
News: Duke running back Juwan Thompson has been a pleasant surprise in Durham this season, and looks to continue his semi-hot streak against FIU on Saturday.
Analysis: Thompson has found success rarely seen out of a Blue Devil running back, and finally found the end zone last week against Tulane. With RBs Desmond Scott and Josh Snead still out, Thompson can be a decent flex play as he's a safe bet for 15-20 touches. Add in the fact that running quarterback Brandon Connette remains out, and Thompson may be seeing more scoring opportunities.
News: Duke will be without running backs Desmond Scott and Josh Snead, as well as backup quarterback Brandon Connette Saturday at Boston College.
Analysis: Scott will miss his second game, Snead his third and Connette his first. Juwan Thompson will become a sneaky last minute plug in against a reeling Eagles squad, and Anthony Boone will see Connette's short yardage attempts.
News: Duke backup quarterback Brandon Connette (undisclosed) was injured in a loss to Stanford, and hasn't practiced this week.
Analysis: Connette is the Blue Devils short yardage rusher, and those attempts will go to freshman Anthony Boone if Connette can't go Saturday at Boston College. Boone already has two rushing touchdowns this season. God forbid they let a running back attempt to score from inside five yards.
News: Connette was 0-for-1 passing with an interception on Saturday against Georgia Tech, but ran for 32 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Connette is effective when he is inserted into the lineup, but he doesn't get enough playing time to be considered a fantasy option, regardless of league format.
News: Connette was 2-of-5 passing for 22 yards on Saturday against Boston College.
Analysis: Connette also struggled to run the ball against Boston College, which has been his specialty so far. Doesn't look like Connette will be replacing Sean Renfree as the starter anytime soon.
News: Connette was 1-for-1 passing for 40 yards and had 78 yards rushing on 12 carries for two touchdowns on Saturday against Virginia.
Analysis: Connette is an intriguing fantasy option at this point for Duke as he mostly runs the ball from the quarterback position, and does so effectively. Until he gets the starting nod, however, this true freshman should remain on your bench.
