News: Coach Brian Kelly said that the competition for who will start the season opener against Navy is down to Andrew Hendrix and Everett Golson, according to the Associated Press.
Analysis:Andrew Hendrix may have the edge over Golson for the due to his previous game experience, since he played some last year. The picture becomes more muddled when Tommy Rees becomes available for the second game of the season, so fantasy owners may want to avoid this situation all together if possible.
QB Hendrix - Starter For Irish If Tommy Rees Suspended?
News: Though Notre Dame has yet to take action against Tommy Rees after a run-in with law enforcement in May, Tim Prister of IrishIllustrated.com writes that once - and if - Rees is disciplined, Andrew Hendrix becomes "the odds-on favorite to start against Navy" at quarterback.
Analysis: Though Everett Golston will also be presented the opportunity to take over under center if he performs well in fall camp, it is Prister's belief Andrew Hendrix "may be the most prepared to open the season."
News: According to a report, Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist will not return to the team next season. Crist is scheduled to graduate later this month and will be allowed to transfer to another FBS school without sitting out a year as long as that school offers a graduate program that is not offered at Notre Dame.
Analysis: Crist was a solid contributor for the Fightin' Irish but with Tommy Rees the starter this year and Andrew Hendrix likely the starter next season, it is best for the young man to move on.
