News:Chandler Catanzaro was perfect on two field goals, and six extra points Saturday against North Carolina State.
Analysis:Chandler Catanzaro is a tremendous kicker, but is being hurt by his team's offensive efficiency. He's attempted just 16 field goals after 27 tries in 2011, and has 99 points compared to 118 as a result.
News:Chandler Catanzaro hit six extra points, but missed his only field goal attempt Thursday at Wake Forest.
Analysis:Chandler Catanzaro hadn't missed all year, but had just 12 field goals through seven contests. He hasn't been quite as good as expected this season.
News: Catanzaro made only one of his three field goal attempts against BC on Saturday.
Analysis: Catanzaro was already on thin ice before so a game like this does not help, though he had little value before anyways.
News: Catanzaro missed two field goals in last week's loss to Boston College and head coach Dabo Swinney said there would be an open competition for the placekicking job this week, the Columbia State reports.
Analysis: Swinney said Catanzaro would have been replaced by Richard Jackson if a kick had been needed in the fourth quarter, so it looks like Catanzaro will lose the job. Either way, the Clemson kicking job is one to avoid for fantasy purposes.
News: Catanzaro made field goals from 38 and 21 yards out, missing a 29-yarder and adding three extra points, against Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Analysis: A nice game for Catanzaro, who's now put together solid games in the past two weeks. Still, be cautious before relying on him as a fantasy option but if he continues to have games like this, then he'll be a solid option.
News: Catanzaro made his lone field goal attempt of 42 yards, while making all four of his extra point opportunities, against Maryland on Saturday.
Analysis: Not a bad game for Catanzaro but he still offers little value as a fantasy option. Until he puts together a string of similar games, continue to avoid. Unless you're desperate.
Clemson's Catanzaro Missed Field Goal Gives UNC Momentum
News: Catanzaro made one of his two field goal attempts, hitting a 48-yarder and missing from 42 yards out and made only extra point against North Carolina on Saturday.
Analysis: The missed field goal came in the 4th quarter that would've put Clemson only down one but instead led to a UNC touchdown drive that proved to be the winning score. Catanzaro's value was already low but missing a field goal in a key spot in the game definitely isn't going to help and could cost him his job. No reason not to continue avoiding him.
News: Catanzaro did not attempt any field goals but made all three of his extra point attempts against Miami (FL) on Saturday.
Analysis: Catanzaro didn't have any opportunities to add more points so it's hard to fault him for not getting a chance. Still, his value wasn't great before and a game like this doesn't help it any. Continue to be cautious about his fantasy value.
News: Catanzaro made three extra points and hit a 42-yard field goal but missed a 32-yarder in overtime after a penalty negated his previous attempt, against Auburn on Saturday.
Analysis: While the missed field goal isn't reassuring, Catanzaro is only a Freshman, so he was put in a pretty tough spot. Unfortunately, if he continues to struggle, Clemson could opt to go back to Richard Jackson, last year's placekicker. For now, it's best to be cautious and see how he (and Clemson) responds to the miss.
Clemson's Catanzaro Makes Six Extra Points vs. Presbyterian
News: Catanzaro made six extra points along with a 47-yard field goal in Clemson's win over Presbyterian on Saturday.
Analysis: Catanzaro could be a decent fantasy option when the matchup is favorable.
News: Catanzaro will likely open the season as Clemson's primary kicker, The Post and Courier reports.
Analysis: Though last season's primary kicker, Richard Jackson, will be a senior this season, head coach Dabo Swinney is looking for more consistency from the his kicker after Jackson made just 3-of-8 field goals over the Tigers' final seven games. Catanzaro does not have a big leg, so Jackson will still handle the long attempts; and if Catanzaro, a redshirt freshman, struggles early, it would not be surprising to see Jackson reclaim his job. Regardless, Catanzaro will have more fantasy value than Jackson unless the roles are switched.
