Miami QB Williams Preparing to Start

News: Ryan Williams will prepare to start Saturday against Florida State in place of Stephen Morris (ankle,) according to the Miami Herald.
Analysis: Ryan Williams was efficient in relief of Morris Saturday against North Carolina, but didn't throw much more than short, dump off passes. Should Williams start, he's unlikely to have much success against FSU.

Miami's Williams Not a Capable Starter?

News: According to one AFC scout, if Ryan Williams starts under center, the 'Canes won't win many games, notes the Miami Herald
Analysis: Ryan Williams has been compared to Ken Dorsey in many fan circles, which makes him a lanky, intelligent quarterback who lacks arm strength. That doesn't exactly sound like fantasy appeal, and it would be a shock if Stephen Morris didn't emerge as the team's starter.

'Canes QB derby to include Ryan Williams?

News: Quarterback Ryan Williams, who transferred to Miami from Memphis during the off-season, has requested a family hardship waiver from the NCAA, with the hope he can be eligible to play immediately.
Analysis: Interesting.  It's rather odd timing on this request, as you would have thought this could have been done month's ago.  Williams didn't set the world ablaze in BBQ country, but he was a true freshman starting on a bad team, so take his stats with a grain of salt.  He's a large reason why I'm down on Stephen Morris' long term potential, and some Miami fans see Williams as a Ken Dorsey clone.  Meaning he's accurate and smart, with limited arm strength.  Stay tuned.

Memphis gets QB transfer from Wake

News: If there was anything that the Memphis Tigers needed most on the gridiron, it was a quarterback.  Last year, Taylor Cook transferred to Rice and super freshman Ryan Williams decided to head to Miami, leaving the Tigers in dire need of a signal caller.  Their prayers were answered in the form of Wake Forest transfer Skylar Jones, a nice athlete who will be eligible to play right away.
Analysis: Jones never really found a fit with the Demon Deacons and while he is far from a polished passer, he at least gives Larry Porter and the Tigers something with which to work.

Memphis' Williams to Start at QB

News: Williams will start this week against Middle Tennessee, ESPN reports.
Analysis: Cannon Smith suffered a concussion last week and is out for the game. Williams was 18-of-25 passing for 293 yards and three TDs in last week's win, so he may keep the job even when Smith gets healthy.

News: Williams relieved starter Cannon Smith due to ineffectiveness and completed 18-of-25 passes for 293 yards and three TDs in Saturday's 49-27 loss to ECU.
