USC's Wittek Struggles in Bowl Loss to Georgia Tech
News:Max Wittek completed 14-of-37 passes for 107 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions Monday as Southern California fell to Georgia Tech 21-7 in the 2012 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.
Analysis:Max Wittek struggled in his second official start as the Trojans' starter under center, having four of his passes deflected at the line and turning the ball over three times on the day. No doubt the additional reps received in replacing the injured Matt Barkley at quarterback helped earned Wittek gain valuable experience, but he'll likely have to turn a true corner in the off-season to hold off the competition he'll encounter heading into the 2013 season from redshirt freshman Cody Kessler and incoming freshman Max Browne.
News:Max Wittek will start at quarterback in the Sun Bowl with Matt Barkley officially ruled out with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: USC and fantasy owners will continue to get a preview of next season with Max Wittek set to make his second career start.
USC's Wittek Taking Majority of Snaps in Preparation for Sun Bowl
News:Max Wittek has been taking the majority of snaps with USC's first-team offense in pre-Sun Bowl practices, this as Barkley continues to nurse a strained right shoulder suffered in the Trojans' November loss to UCLA, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With Barkley looking increasingly less likely to start for USC in the upcoming Sun Bowl against Georgia Tech, Trojans fans and fantasy owners alike may very well get a second serious look at the future of quarterback for Southern California with Max Wittek under center.
News:Max Wittek completed 14-of-23 passing for 186 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions Saturday as Southern California fell to Notre Dame 22-13 at home in Los Angeles.
Analysis:Max Wittek struggled in his first official start under center for the Trojans but should be considered a rising fantasy start out of the Pac-12 heading into 2013.
News: Coach Lane Kiffin confirmed Sunday night that Max Wittek will start in place of incumbent Matt Barkley (shoulder) Saturday against Notre Dame, The Orange County Register reports.
Analysis:Max Wittek finished last Saturday's game against UCLA after Barkley was injured, and since he is facing a tough matchup against a tough Notre Dame defense fantasy owners should feel free to look elsewhere this week.
News:Max Wittek has beaten out second-year player Cody Kessler as the back up quarterback to University of Southern California starter, Matt Barkley, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Head coach Lane Kiffin apparently joked with Max Wittek that walk-on John Manoogian had won the back up job, but then revealed Wittek had been selected as the Trojans No. 2 under center. "I'm excited about the opportunity," Wittek told ESPN Tuesday. "Obviously I have to stay ready every game, stay ready every play, keep my head in the game and take advantage of my opportunities when they come."
News: USC coach Lane Kiffin said that Cody Kessler has won the battle to back up quarterback Matt Barkley. Kessler was dueling with fellow freshman Max Wittek for the spot.
Analysis: Both Kessler and Wittek had shown enough to make the duel interesting this fall. It's clear that Kiffin likes both quarterbacks, but Kessler was a little more consistent throughout camp.
News: The backup quarterback job for USC is becoming quite the battle. Current No. 2 Jesse Scroggins sat out Tuesday's practice with a thumb injury, giving plenty of reps to true freshmen Cody Kessler and Max Wittek.
Analysis: Matt Barkley is the man, but is one injury away from coach Lane Kiffin calling for a backup. Scroggins has been very solid in camp so far, but if the injury puts him on the shelf for any length of time, the fresh faces will get their chance to step in.
