OSU's Spencer Picks Up 54 Yards Through Air

News: Evan Spencer hauled in three passes for 54 yards during Ohio State's 56-10 dismantling of Miami of Ohio on Saturday.
Analysis: Evan Spencer was actually targeted eight times, second-most on the team behind Philly Brown, but five of the passes fell to the ground incomplete. All the attention in his direction intimates he could become a large part of the Buckeyes' passing game, but Spencer will have to gather the ball when it comes his way if he wants to develop trust with QB Braxton Miller this season.

Michigan State the nation's #1 defense

News: Michigan State came into the weekend No.1 in the nation in total defense and they remain there after holding Ohio State to just 173 yards in total offense. The Spartans also registered nine sacks and picked off young Braxton Miller once. A late touchdown pass from Joe Bauserman to Evan Spencer was the only thing that spoiled the shutout at the Horseshoe.
Analysis: You can make a case that the schedule has much to do with the Spartans' ranking, however, they've done what they've needed to do to earn the lofty ranking. Even in the loss to Notre Dame, the Spartans only gave up 275 yards in total offense. The schedule will get much tougher from here on out and the Spartans are unlikely to sit atop the rankings for long. But for now, they own bragging rights.
