Analysis: Regular starter Shawne Alston was expected to play, so Andrew Buie wasn't on many fantasy radars coming into the day. We'd expect Alston to be back in the near future, but keep an eye on Buie in case Alston can't shake the injury bug.
West Virginia's Buie Has Quiet Day Against Maryland
News:Andrew Buie had a team-high 14 carries for just 33 yards in West Virginia's win against Maryland on Saturday. He also had three catches for 45 yards.
Analysis:Andrew Buie got the bulk of the carries since starter Shawne Alston was very limited with a thigh bruise. However, the Mountaineers' ground game never really got going, so Buie wasn't able to capitalize on the opportunity.
West Virginia's Buie Gets 12 Touches Against James Madison
News:Andrew Buie carried seven times for 31 yards and caught five passes for 90 yards in West Virginia's win over James Madison on Saturday.
Analysis:Andrew Buie puts up pretty solid numbers for a backup running back in a pass-happy offense.
News:Andrew Buie ran six times for 80 yards and a score, and caught four passes for 31 yards in West Virginia's win over Marshall on Saturday.
Analysis:Andrew Buie made a nice impact on his 10 touches. Being the second running back on the depth chart, it's going to be hard for Buie to get a lot of touches on a very potent West Virginia offense.
News: West Virginia running back Dustin Garrison didn't reach last week's numbers in the 43-16 win over UConn, but he was productive. Garrison rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Andrew Buie rushed for 11 yards, but Garrison received 18 of WVU's 29 rushing attempts.
Analysis: It's pretty clear that Garrison is the top back in the WVU rotation, and with the lanes that the offense opens up he would be a wise pickup if available.
News: West Virginia could be short two running backs on Saturday against Norfolk State due to injuries. Andrew Buie injured his collarbone on Sunday against Marshall, and it remains to be seen if Trey Johnson can play after missing the opener.
Analysis: If those two can go it would mean more time on the field for Vernard Roberts and Dustin Garrison. But running back isn't a position of strength for the Mountaineers from a fantasy standpoint either way.
News: West Virginia running backs did not have the best of days in the 34-13 win over Marshall. Andrew Buie led the way with 30 yards on 15 carries, but he left the game in the third quarter with a minor collarbone injury. And Vernard Roberts rushed for just 12 yards on seven carries but he did score a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Analysis: Buie should be fine, but the Mountaineers have an awful lot to work on this week in practice when it comes to running the football. The backs need to improve and so does the blocking.
