Notre Dame's Atkinson Runs for Score in Win

News: George Atkinson scored a touchdown and ran for 34 yards on seven carries in Notre Dame's 38-0 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.
Analysis: That was only George Atkinson's fifth rushing touchdown of the year and his first since the BYU game a month ago.

Notre Dame Without Atkinson

News: George Atkinson (flu) will miss Saturday's game against Oklahoma, ESPN reports.
Analysis: Although George Atkinson is technically Notre Dame's third runner, he's the team's best per-play playmaker, boasting four touchdowns and 301 yards on just 37 carries (8.1 YPC). His absence is good news for Cierre Wood and Theo Riddick.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Scores Game Winning TD

News: George Atkinson scored the game-winning touchdown in Notre Dame's 17-14 win over BYU on Saturday.
Analysis: Besides the touchdown, there is not much fantasy value in George Atkinson's numbers today -- 5 rushes, 11 yards, one touchdown -- but he does continue to be an important part of the Notre Dame offense and today proved that.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Has Quiet Day in Win

News: George Atkinson had 21 yards on three carries in Notre Dame's 20-13 win over Stanford on Saturday.
Analysis: George Atkinson's quiet day can probably be attributed to Theo Riddick's elbow feeling better than he did last week.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Has Breakout Performance in Win

News: George Atkinson ran for 123 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in Notre Dame's 41-3 win over Miami on Saturday night.
Analysis: This was a huge game for George Atkinson, proving that Notre Dame has three legitimate running backs: Atkinson, Cierre Wood, and Theo Riddick.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Does Little on Ground in Win

News: George Atkinson ran four times for four yards in Notre Dame's 13-6 win over Michigan on Saturday night.
Analysis: As we spoke about last week, with Cierre Wood returning George Atkinson's role could be diminishing and that's exactly what happened. That's something to watch as the weeks go on.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Effective Against Michigan State

News: George Atkinson served as a complementary running back Saturday night against Michigan State and rushed five times for 43 yards in Notre Dame's 20-3 win.
Analysis: With the Irish now utilizing a three-back system with Cierre Wood healthy, this will probably be George Atkinson's role going forward, and outputs like this will keep the ball coming his way, albeit in a limited capacity.

Notre Dame's Atkinson to Remain Number Two Running Back

News: George Atkinson was listed as the number two running back along with Cierre Wood on Notre Dame's new depth chart, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Theo Riddick will remain the starter along with Wood and George Atkinson III as the number two backs. This makes sense, in the sense of Riddick has a good rhythm going and has played well the first two weeks. One has to wonder, however, which way Brian Kelly will go if one of has a hot hand come Saturday.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Scores Two Touchdowns in Opening Win

News: George Atkinson scored two touchdowns in Notre Dame's 50-10 opening win over Navy.
Analysis: What do you when you have an inexperienced guy at quarterback like Everett Golson? Run, run run. That would explain the explosive output today for Theo Riddick and George Atkinson who each scored two touchdowns.

Notre Dame's Atkinson Returning Kicks

News: George Atkinson will once again return kicks for Notre Dame while seeing time at running back and slot receiver, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: George Atkinson was one of the nation's elite kick returners in 2011, averaging 26.1 yards per return and scoring twice. He will back up Cierre Wood and Theo Riddick at running back/slot receiver, but most of his damage and touche will come on kickoffs, though his impact may be blunted by the new rules, which could limit big returns.
