Week 12 Start and Sit wide receivers

by Adam Mankuta | CollegeFantasyFootballInsider.com
  •

Thank you Mike Edwards. Who is Mike Edwards? He is the UTEP receiver who was one of the only good calls we made on receivers to bench in Week 11.

But the bright side is the starts we recommended surely earned you major Fantasy points, and hopefully brought you another round further into your playoffs.

There is no doubt it is now crunch time, and if you are reading this piece, you are looking for every advantage possible to find the sneaky plays and avoid the bad matchups, to continue that title push.

Before we look at Week 12 starts, let's look at the solid starts from Week 11.

Last Week's Starts

Kain Colter, Northwestern vs. Rice: 14 passing yard, 39 rushing yards, 5 receptions, 27 yards, TD. Grade A-

Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt vs. Kentucky: 6 receptions, 131 yards, TD. Grade A

Terrance Williams, Baylor vs. Kansas: 4 receptions, 52 yards, TD. Grade A-

Jared Abbrederis, Wisconsin vs. Minnesota: 2 receptions, 27 yards. Grade F

Rueben Randle, LSU vs. Western Kentucky: 3 receptions, 76 yards, TD. Grade A-

Justin Johnson, Houston vs. Tulane: 5 receptions, 96 yards. Grade B+

Jeremiah Ostrowski, Hawaii vs. Nevada: 8 receptions, 133 yards, TD. Grade A

Grade: A-

Last Week's Sits

Marvin McNutt, Iowa vs. Michigan State: 8 receptions, 130 yards, TD. Grade F

Da'Rick Rogers, Tennessee vs. Arkansas: 5 receptions, 106 yards. Grade B-

Nick Harwell, Miami (Ohio) vs. Temple: 15 receptions, 229 yards, 2 TD. Grade F

Mike Edwards, Texas-El Paso vs. East Carolina: 3 receptions, 17 yards. Grade A

Cole Beasley, Southern Methodist vs. Navy: 8 receptions, 65 yards, TD, rush TD. Grade F

Grade: C+

Overall Grade: B

Start Em! Wide Receivers (BCS)

Emory Blake, Auburn vs. Samford: Despite losing 45-7 against Georgia, Blake still topped 100 yards, and there is no way Samford can match him. Expect the Tigers to play angry and roll up 50-plus points, and Blake should be a sure bet to find the end zone.

Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina vs. The Citadel: Jeffrey has been one of the biggest busts of the entire 2011 season, however against The Citadel this week, he is a solid start. He is a physical specimen and even with bad quarterback play, he should dominate his way to a score or two this week.

Andre Debose, Florida vs. Furman: Another SEC receiver playing a team that has no match for his skill set. Debose has deep threat skills, and he should be able to make two or three big plays against Furman. He is a solid flex option in all leagues.

Jaz Reynolds, Oklahoma vs. Baylor: Reynolds had been playing well as he was when stud receiver Ryan Broyles went down with a season-ending injury. Now with defenses concentrating on Kenny Stills, Reynolds should see single coverage and dominate a Baylor defense that has not stopped an opponent's passing game all season. Reynolds is a solid No. 2 receiver in all formats.

All 120

Chris McNeill, Wyoming vs. New Mexico: McNeill is coming off a solid game against Air Force which saw him find the end zone yet again, and with the Cowboys playing solid offensive football all year, they should easily hang 30-plus against UNM. McNeill has the talent to catch six or seven balls with 100 yards and a score.

Cody Hoffman, BYU vs. New Mexico State: Hoffman continues his torrid play, scoring twice for the Cougars in their blowout win against Idaho. With Jake Heaps likely back at quarterback, expect Hoffman to have the same big play ability against the Aggies, en route to another huge day.

Sit Em! Wide Receivers (BCS)

A.J. Jenkins, Illinois vs. Wisconsin: Jenkins has had a very good season for the Illini and despite the blowout loss to Michigan he caught eight balls. However he may struggle to produce that way against the Badgers and you can probably play it safe.

Eric Ward, Texas Tech vs. Missouri: The Red Raiders have not been the same since they upset Oklahoma a few weeks back, and the passing game is an absolute mess. Ward has had some big games this season, but you cannot trust them against Missouri, who is coming off a solid defensive effort against Texas.

Keenan Allen, California vs. Stanford: Allen is coming off a quiet three-catch game in a win against Oregon State, and you must think Stanford is pissed coming off a loss to Oregon. Allen is a solid playmaker who has been a solid Fantasy performer in 2011, but there should be better options that are more likely to score this week than Allen.

All 120

Kamar Jorden, Bowling Green vs. Ohio: Jorden is finally coming on following a slow start to 2011, and this is a risky bench choice. But Ohio has a very solid defense, one that can take away a team's best option, which Jorden is. He may score, but we wouldn’t expect a massive game from the Falcons receiver.

Taylor Stockemer, Arkansas State vs. MTSU: You may be tempted to start Stockemer after his two-touchdown performance last week, but think again. Arkansas State should roll MTSU both in the air and on the ground, and chances of a repeat are slim, especially considering the other receivers on the ASU team.

Player News
Kyle Prater
Northwestern's Prater Misses Spring Practice
Kyle Prater, WR, NWEST
5/24/2013
News: Kyle Prater missed spring practice due to an undisclosed injury, Inside Northwestern reports.
Analysis: Kyle Prater was a high-profile transfer from USC (where many analysts had him as a top-five recruit), but he didn't get much playing time last season and had just ten receptions. While this injury doesn't sound serious, it won't help him get more playing time by missing practice. He still has the size (6-5) to emerge as a red zone threat.

Nick Harwell
Miami (OH) WR Harwell Goes to Kansas
Nick Harwell, WR, MIAOH
5/23/2013
News: Nick Harwell transferred from Miami (OH) to Kansas, the Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: It's unclear whether Nick Harwell will be available for 2013 after getting kicked off the Miami (OH) team, but it will be a very interesting situation if he does play this year. Harwell was extremely productive the last three years, catching 229 passes for 3,166 yards and 23 touchdowns in just 34 games. Kansas' offense is a wreck and completed a mind boggling 47.3 percent of its passes last year, though, so Harwell will have to be truly dominant to make a mark in the box score.

Robert Lockhart
'Canes WR Lockhart to Transfer
Robert Lockhart, WR, MIAMI
5/23/2013
News: Robert Lockhart has been granted his release, and will transfer from Miami, Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Robert Lockhart's departure has been long rumored over the spring, and is now official. He had a tremendous camp last August, but injuries pushed him down a crowded depth chart.

Charles Sims
Houston's Charles Sims Not Returning
Charles Sims, RB, HOU
5/22/2013
News: Charles Sims shocked the college fantasy football world Wednesday by declaring he would not return to Houston for his final season of eligibility, the Houston Chronicle reports. "It is with regret and deep humbling that I am ending my playing career at the University of Houston," Sims said in a statement released to Rivals.com. "I have a lot of great memories that I will carry with me forever."
Analysis: Charles Sims graduated in May and thus has more options in his ability to transfer. Had he remained at Houston, he would have been in consideration for a top-10 spot in our running back rankings after rushing for 851 yards and 11 touchdowns, despite missing three games with leg and ankle injuries.

Daniel Schwarz
Schwarz Leaves Tulsa
Daniel Schwarz, K, TULSA
5/22/2013
News: Daniel Schwarz is no longer a part of the Tulsa football program, the Tulsa World reports.
Analysis: Daniel Schwarz's place as Tulsa's kicker will apparently be inherited by walk-on kicker Carl Salazar.

Marquise Williams
UNC Backup QB Williams Back in School
Marquise Williams, QB, UNC
5/22/2013
News: Marquise Williams has re-enrolled in classes at North Carolina, and will be a part of the team this fall, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: Marquise Williams will likely regain his spot backing up starting signal caller Bryn Renner, while allowing the Heels to likely redshirt freshman standout Mitch Trubisky. For 2013, Williams may see some snaps as a more mobile option in this spread offense, but things get real interesting in 2014 when Renner graduates. Some fans have questioned Williams' ability to be a full time quarterback, and a position change isn't out of the question.

Brandon Mitchell
Former Arkansas QB Mitchell Picks N.C. State
Brandon Mitchell, QB, ARK
5/20/2013
News: Brandon Mitchell will enroll at North Carolina State, where he'll be immediately eligible, according to ESPN.com.
Analysis: Brandon Mitchell immediately becomes a major sleeper to watch throughout August. At 6-foot-4, 239 pounds, he's the perfect fit for new head coach Dave Doeren's spread attack that has produced tremendously successful fantasy quarterbacks. He'll battle Colorado State transfer Pete Thomas for the right to start in Raleigh.

Clifton Richardson
UVA RB Richardson Leaves Program
Clifton Richardson, RB, UVA
5/16/2013
News: Clifton Richardson has decided to transfer, the school announced on Thursday.
Analysis: Clifton Richardson was plagued by injury as a sophomore, but this is a blow to the Cavaliers' backfield. He represented the only big, power back the team had. Kevin Parks value gets a nice bump as he'll likely get as many carries as he can handle. At least until top recruit Taquan Mizzell gets up to speed.

Nick Hirschman
Hirschman Heads to Akron
Nick Hirschman, QB, COLO
5/13/2013
News: Nick Hirschman transferred from Colorado to Akron, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: A player going from a BCS team to a non-AQ squad would normally get the benefit of the doubt in a positional battle, but Nick Hirschman is probably no better than 50-50 to beat Kyle Pohl to the starting quarterback role at Akron. Hirschman has modest recruiting pedigree and failed at Colorado.

Allan Bridgford
Bridgford Transfers to Southern Miss
Allan Bridgford, QB, CAL
5/13/2013
News: Allan Bridgford transferred from California to Southern Mississippi, the Mississippi Press reports.
Analysis: Allan Bridgford should be eligible to play in 2013 for Southern Mississippi. After failing miserably at California, however, joining up with a sinking Southern Mississippi program doesn't give reason to have high hopes for Bridgford as a fantasy option.
