Broncos' Demaryius Thomas lands five-year deal, worth reported $70M
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(7/15/15) The Broncos have signed wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to a five-year, 70 million deal, according to ESPN. His contract calls for $43.5 million guaranteed.
Thomas' deal is similar to the one Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant agreed to Wednesday. Bryant also landed a five-year, $70 million contract, but his deal includes $45 million guaranteed.
Thomas and the Broncos were able to strike a deal before Wednesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline for players under the franchise tag to agree to a long-term deal this year. Thomas was slated to play the 2015 season under a one-year, $12.82 million franchise tender.
"We are thrilled to reach a long-term contract agreement with Demaryius Thomas," general manager John Elway said. "He has developed into one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, and making sure he remained a Denver Bronco was a significant priority for our team.
"Demaryius is a special talent and an elite player who has also become a team leader during his five NFL seasons. We are very much looking forward to him playing a major role in the success of the Broncos well into the future."
The 27-year-old Thomas has made the Pro Bowl the last three seasons. His 111 catches in 2014 were a career best and trailed only Antonio Brown's 129 catches.
Thomas has had at least 92 receptions and 1,430 yards the last three seasons. He also had a career-best 1,619 receiving yards in 2014. The 2010 first-round pick has totaled 351 catches for 5,317 yards and 41 touchdowns in his first five NFL seasons.
Report: Broncos, Demaryius Thomas haven't spoken in a month
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(7/14/15) The Broncos and receiver Demaryius Thomas are trying to come to an agreement on a long-term deal. Thomas was tagged as the Broncos' franchise player earlier this offseason.
The team and Thomas haven't exchanged any contract proposals or had any communication in more than a month, ESPN reported.
Report: Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas wants Megatron money
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(7/13/15) Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is seeking money that would exceed what Lions superstar Calvin Johnson earns, sources have told 9news.com.
The Broncos have offered more than the $12 million recently given to new Vikings wideout Mike Wallace, but that reportedly is not enough.
The two sides have until Wednesday to reach an agreement on a multi-year contract. If no such deal is struck, he will play the 2015 season on a one-year tender.
Thomas, who could sit out the early portion of training camp as a protest, has achieved three straight seasons of at least 1,430 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.
Report: Peyton Manning upset over Demaryius Thomas contract dispute
|by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer|
|(6/12/15) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is upset that the organization has yet to come to a contract agreement with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is reporting.
The contract dispute is keeping Thomas away from minicamp and precious one-on-one time with Manning.
Thomas caught 111 passes for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.
Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas not expected at minicamp
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(6/9/15) Attendance at minicamp is considered mandatory, but not for Broncos standout wideout Demaryius Thomas, according to the Denver Post.
Thomas has held out of all offseason activity as he negotiates a long-term deal with the team. He is not expected at minicamp.
Players would normally be fined for missing the three-day practice session, but Thomas is not subject to that penalty because he hasn't signed the one-year, $12.82 million franchise tender offered by the team. He is essentially a free agent until he signs it.
The two sides have until July 15 to agree on a long-term contract. If they cannot come together and Thomas has not signed with another team, he must play for that amount in 2015.
|The Broncos made it clear they want to keep receiver Demaryius Thomas for a long time when they gave him the franchise tag this offseason, and we hope it doesn't lead to a holdout in training camp. Thomas, barring a contract issue, should return as one of the best Fantasy receivers, and he's worth drafting toward the end of Round 1 or beginning of Round 2 in the majority of leagues. He has been a Top 5 receiver in standard leagues each of the past three seasons, and he should benefit with Peyton Manning coming back for another year. Thomas has at least 92 catches, 1,430 yards and 10 touchdowns over the past three seasons, and he should again have the chance to dominate, especially if he's still looking for a long-term contract. The only thing that could ruin Thomas' outlook coming into training camp is a holdout, so continue to monitor his status.
