Broncos place franchise tag on Demaryius Thomas
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(3/2/15) The Broncos have placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, the team announced Monday.
The two sides were unable to come to terms on a long-term deal before Monday, which is the deadline for teams to use the franchise tag, but will presumably keep working towards a deal. The use of the tag on the wide receiver means that tight end Julius Thomas is headed for free agency if the Broncos do not re-sign him before March 10.
Elway: Broncos will use franchise tag on Demaryius Thomas

|(2/19/15) Speaking to the media at the Indianapolis combine on Thursday, Broncos general manager John Elway said that the team would be keeping wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
Thomas is scheduled to be a free agent, but, if the two sides can't agree on a contract, Elway confirmed that the team would use the franchise tag to hold onto Thomas for another season.
Thomas is coming off a career year. He had 111 catches for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Report: Broncos could use franchise tag on Demaryius Thomas

|(2/10/15) The Broncos are in on keeping wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. So much so, the team is reportedly willing to use its franchise tag to keep the 27-year-old, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Thomas, coming off a career-high 1,619 receiving yards on 111 catches with 11 touchdowns, would make nearly $13 million if the team applied the tag to him.
Eric Decker 'pushing' for Demaryius Thomas to sign with Jets
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/30/15) Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is set to become a free agent in March, unless he agrees to a contract extension or Denver uses the franchise tag on him. If he does become a free agent, former teammate Eric Decker hopes Thomas would consider joining him on the Jets roster.
Decker spent a few days in Arizona this week with Thomas filming a commercial.
“I’ve been pushing for the entire year now,” Decker said in a telephone interview with The New York Post. “It was just another opportunity to talk to him about it. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I think it would be tough for Denver to let him go. So whether they franchise-tag him here in the next month or give him a long-term deal, he’s just one of those premier players in this league.
"If he happens to make it to free agency, I would love to sign him because playing alongside him for four years and especially the last two years made it a lot of fun and made it a lot easier. He’s just one of the great players in this league.”
Thomas recorded a career-best 1,619 receiving yards in 2014. It was his third straight season of 1,000-plus receiving yards. He also had at least 10 touchdowns for a third straight season.
Broncos aim to re-sign Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
|(1/13/15) Broncos general manager John Elway said that once he finds a new head coach, he'll focus on re-signing impending free agents Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas, reports the Denver Post.
"We've got a good base of guys for the most part, with the exception of a couple Thomases and a couple other guys we'll work on once we get through the coaching search to be able to tie them down (and) hopefully have them back," Elway said.
Denver could use its franchise tag on wideout Demaryius Thomas if the sides can't agree on a multiyear deal. He and tight end Julius Thomas combined for 23 touchdowns this season.
|Demaryius Thomas finished as the No. 1 Fantasy receiver in 2013, and hopefully he can stay there this season. Thomas had 92 catches for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns, which led all receivers. He closed the year with double digits in Fantasy points in nine of the final 10 games, and he could see a bump in targets with Eric Decker now gone to the Jets. Thomas finished No. 12 in targets with 142, so hopefully Peyton Manning will rely on him a little more with Decker gone. The Broncos have a loaded receiving corps even without Decker with Thomas, Julius Thomas, Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders. But Demaryius Thomas is the go-to target, and we're expecting another monster campaign. Thomas should be drafted by Round 2 in all leagues, and you can argue he's a first-round option in PPR formats.
