Bills backs might get off to slow start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/21/14) Bills running backs Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon don't have a great matchup on the way in what will be their first games with an expanded role in Week 8, but both should still be on Fantasy radars.

Both Brown and Dixon will be among the most-added players on waivers this week, with C.J. Spiller already out for the season and Fred Jackson likely to miss some time. Brown is considered the more promising option of the two long-term, though there is a good chance both could struggle in Week 8 against the Jets.

The Jets have allowed just four touchdowns to opposing running backs this season, and three of them have been through the air. Opposing backs are averaging just 76.7 yards on 3.7 yards per carry on the ground, so the Bills' running game could be in for a rough outing.

The team hasn't given much of an indication as to how the playing time will be split up, but the beat writer for the team's official website thinks Dixon will at least get the edge in passing downs. Brown is the more talented runner, but the team may play it safe, at least at first, and split time between the two.

The Bills follow up Sunday's game with a bye in Week 9, so we might have to wait until Week 10 to really see how the running game shakes out. If you have the roster space, either player will be worth placing a waiver-wire bid on, but they may be tough to rely on at first.

Bills not ready to name starter between Anthony Dixon, Bryce Brown

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/20/14) Bills coach Doug Marrone is not ready to tip his hand on who he intends to use in the backfield Week 8 against the Jets. With C.J. Spiller likely out for the season with a broken clavicle and Fred Jackson sidelined at least four weeks with a groin injury, the Bills will likely turn to Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown for the majority of the workload on Sunday.

"We have a little bit of a feel" for what Dixon and Brown offer, from games and practice, respectively, Marrone said during his Monday news conference, per the team's official website.

Bills' Jackson: Bills won't 'miss a beat' with Brown, Dixon at RB

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/20/14) Bills running backs Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon are expected to shoulder the workload after running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller suffered injuries Sunday against the Vikings.

While only time will tell how coach Doug Marrone intends to use his new backfield formation, Jackson spoke highly of Brown when asked specifically about the third-year back during an interview Monday with WGR Sportsradio 550.

"He is an every down back," Jackson said, per the team's official website. "He can do it all. He’s a guy who can carry the ball 20-25 times. He’s a guy who can pass protect his butt off and run routes well out of the backfield. We won’t miss a beat with a guy like him. He’s a guy who is going to come out and can produce. We know what he’s capable of doing. I’m excited to see him get his opportunity. It comes at a time when we’ve lost a couple of guys who were valuable to the team, but that’s why we have Bryce and Boobie. They can step in and shoulder that weight and we don’t expect to miss a beat."

Anthony Dixon, Bryce Brown names to watch for Bills

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) The Bills could be without their top two running backs after Week 7, which could thrust Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown into larger roles moving forward.

With C.J. Spiller's season likely done and Fred Jackson dealing with a groin injury, Dixon carried the ball 13 times for 51 yards, while adding 15 yards on three receptions. He should see a bigger role than he has so far this season, but it might be Brown who has more value for Fantasy owners, since Dixon has never carried the ball more than 14 times in his five NFL seasons.

The Bills acquired Brown this offseason but have yet to use him. However, he has more potential than Dixon and figures to be a bigger part of the team's future anyways. Brown had thrived in limited opportunities in the past, rushing for 387 yards and four touchdowns on 71 carries over the course of four games late in his rookie season with the Eagles.

Whether Jackson will be sidelined moving forward remains to be seen, but Brown looks like the back to target on waivers this week. He should finally see the field and has enough upside to make him worth a flier.

Bills' Anthony Dixon comes on in relief Week 7

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) Bills running back Anthony Dixon came on in relief Week 7 against the Vikings.

Dixon entered the game after both Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller were carted off with injuries. Dixon was average, picking up 51 yards on 13 carries. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry. Dixon also had three receptions for 15 yards. Dixon was the team's primary option once both players went down, but Bryce Brown was inactive for the contest. It's unclear if Dixon's role will change Week 8 when Brown will likely be active.

Dixon will take on the Jets Week 8.
