Preseason Outlook

Ponder working to improve in '12: A year ago, Christian Ponder got ready for the season away from the Vikings' facilities, which made it a challenge for him to truly prepare. No such problems this season, and Ponder is capitalizing on it. The quarterback has watched his team add talent via free agency (receiver Jerome Simpson, tight end John Carlson) and the draft (tackle Matt Kalil and receivers Jarius Wright and Greg Childs), and he feels the time is right for him to step up. After working out with the likes of Simpson this week, Ponder's optimistic for the upcoming season. He's prepared for it by adding some muscle. "I had some injuries last year (and) I can try to help myself not get injured next year,” he said. "(I'm) doing a lot of stuff in the weight room, the training room, doing yoga. (I am preparing) myself to be in the best physical shape as possible for this coming season." (Updated 05/03/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Ponder didn't win over Fantasy owners much as a rookie, but he'll be given the chance to put up some nice numbers in 2012. The offensive line should be better and his receiving corps should be much better. Ponder is a deep sleeper for 2012, worth a late pick in drafts. (Updated 05/03/2012).
