Latest News
Ballard coming along slowly: The Boston Herald reports that Patriots tight end Jake Ballard is gradually making progress. Ballard is finally ready to hit the field, but the team is going to take it slow with him when the offseason program begins Monday. Ballard tore his ACL in the Giants’ victory against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, and he is recovering nicely. But without the need to get overly aggressive, the Pats are taking the cautious approach.

Fantasy Analysis
Ballard is an interesting prospect who is still under the Patriots’ control for three more seasons. He caught 38 passes for 604 yards and four touchdowns for the Giants in 2011 before getting hurt. The injury, which also required microfracture surgery, kept Ballard out for the 2012 season. Ballard will be fine for this regular season, and the belief is he could be fully ready to roll for the offseason program. He is expected to be the backup for Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and he could be pressed into duty early in the year if Gronkowski is hurt. Keep an eye on what develops, but Ballard is not worth drafting in most formats.
