Ballard tweaks his ankle
by Dave Richard \| Senior Fantasy Writer (6/4/13) The Boston Herald reports Patriots tight end Jake Ballard stopped his work during the team's OTA practice Tuesday after hurting his left ankle while trying to catch a pass from Tom Brady in the back-right corner of the end zone. The severity is not known but he did stay to watch the end of practice, most likely a good sign. It is also not known if he will practice again this week.

Ballard steps up with Gronk out
by Jamey Eisenberg \| Senior Fantasy Writer (5/30/13) ESPN reports that with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) sidelined, Jake Ballard has looked sharp in OTA workouts, showing limited signs of restriction nearly 16 months after originally suffering a knee injury. The report says he's shown reliable hands to go along with his big frame (6-foot-6, 275 pounds), and he should make a difference as a blocker when the pads come on. Ballard said that while he's working toward being back to 100 percent, he's staying within the parameters of what the team's medical and coaching staff have laid out for him while he's on the field. "I'm doing my best I can to be 100 percent, and I'm doing as much as I can, as much as they're allowing me to do out here," Ballard said. "When I'm out here I feel like I'm putting in good work and getting better."

Ballard is finally ready to hit the field, but the team is going to take it slow with him when the offseason program begins Monday. Ballard tore his ACL in the Giants’ victory against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, and he is recovering nicely. But without the need to get overly aggressive, the Pats are taking the cautious approach.
