Gerhart says he'll be ready: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart suffered a MCL tear late last season that didn't require surgery. According to the bruising rusher, he says he's feeling better and will be ready for the start of the season. "I've been able to work through it pretty nicely," he said during a recent offseason workout. "Coming back, it's getting better and better, just rehabbing the last few months. Being back out here taking care of it -- it's feeling good running around." (Updated 05/03/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Gerhart should begin the season with a big job: Replacing Adrian Peterson. The Vikings' star running back is coming back from a torn ACL suffered last December and will either not be ready for the start of the year or will be limited to start the year. Gerhart is expected to take on a larger role than normal at least to begin the year. Depending on how Peterson comes back and depending on how Gerhart does, his potential for 2012 is all over the map. If he doesn't do so hot in the early going, Peterson will take back his workload once he proves he's healthy. If Gerhart does do well, then he could keep a share of the rushing duties for a while. Expect Gerhart to be targeted by those owners who take Peterson early on with a pick around Round 8. If you don't have Peterson, you probably won't be interested in taking him that soon, but if he's there in the later rounds you should consider him as a quality rusher worth padding your bench with.
