|Sean Weatherspoon out for season |
|by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(6/11/14) The Falcons announced Tuesday that linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will miss the entire 2014 season after rupturing his Achilles tendon during a workout.
"During Sean's run today with our medical staff, he suffered an injury," coach Mike Smith said in a statement. "We sent Sean to the doctor for some additional testing and evaluation and unfortunately the results showed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon. Sean had been working extremely hard to get back on the field, but regrettably he will miss the entire 2014 season. He will have a procedure done in the near future and we expect him to make a full recovery."
Weatherspoon is entering the final year of his contract and will be a free agent after this year.

(4/23/14) Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon recorded 211 tackles and seven sacks in 2011-12 before getting 38 stops and no sacks in an injury-plagued 2013 season. Weatherspoon, 26, told ESPN.com that the team's offseason moves, especially the signing of nose tackle Paul Soliai, will make his job a lot easier.
"Bringing in somebody of that caliber, I've seen him over the years and the way he's been playing,'' Weatherspoon said of Soliai. "He's a big guy and real big for run-stopping. He'll whip up on the center, and that's the apex of the offense. So I think that's something that can be great.
"We signed all our defensive tackles back from last year [Jonathan Babineaux, Corey Peters, Peria Jerry]. Bringing those three guys back along with [Soliai] and bringing a big guy on the outside in [defensive end] Tyson Jackson ... they made some moves, man. It's definitely saying that we're active and we want to turn things around."

(12/25/13) Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, who's been limited to seven games this year, did not participate in Wednesday's walkthrough due to a knee injury. His status for Sunday's finale vs. Carolina is uncertain at best.
|Sean Weatherspoon is a terrific talent, but keeping him on the field has been a problem for the Falcons. He missed nine matchups last year and three the year before that. Obviously his numbers took a hit because of his lack of participation, and his skills could follow suit. Weatherspoon didn't even have a sack last season. It is believed that Weatherspoon will move inside in the Falcons' new 3-4 scheme and therefore be more of a tackle contributor than anything else. He can do that, but concerns about him being on the field for 16 games put a cap on his Fantasy potential. Weatherspoon is worth a mid- to late-round choice but we like teammate Paul Worrilow better in leagues that count tackles.
