Andy Dalton not reliable without A.J. Green

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) Andy Dalton and the Bengals' offense failed to get much done in Week 7 against the Colts, and it was his second game of the season with fewer than 6 Fantasy points.

Dalton, coming off a 323-yard, two touchdown game in Week 6, managed to pass for just 126 yards Sunday. He completed just 18 of 38 passes in the game, against a Colts defense that had been third in the league in Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks.

This performance probably shouldn't change how anyone views Dalton; it was just an extreme example of what we've long known about him. He can be a useful Fantasy option at times, but it is asking too much from him to expect him to succeed against a tough defense without A.J. Green to throw to. As long as Green is out, Dalton should probably be avoided, especially with another tough matchup on the way in Week 8 against the Ravens.

Colts stymie Bengals QB Andy Dalton in Sunday puntfest

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) When Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton completed his first pass for minus-5 yards Sunday at Indianapolis, it was a portent of things to come. But at least he hit his target.

Dalton spent much of the rest of the afternoon throwing incompletions. The result was a shutout defeat and 18 connections on 36 tries for a mere 126 yards. He averaged just 3.3 yards per attempt.

His problems and that of the rest of the offense meant a team-record 11 punts in one game despite five minutes showing on the clock in the third quarter.

Dalton, who threw for just 12 yards in the first quarter, will attempt to turn it around against visiting Baltimore next Sunday.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton surpasses 300 yards without top WR

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/12/14) Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton tossed for more than 300 yards Sunday against the Panthers, but Cincinnati had to settle for a 37-all tie. Dalton completed 34 of 44 passes for 323 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while rushing for 25 yards on four carries.

Dalton tied the game at 7 in the second quarter with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Tate. His second touchdown pass was a 34-yard completion to Mohamed Sanu in the fourth quarter, which tied the game at 24.

Sunday was the second time this season Dalton surpassed 300 passing yards, and he did it without top receiver A.J. Green, who was sidelined due to a toe injury. Dalton also threw for multiple touchdowns for a second straight game. Though, Dalton had just one interception through his first four games before throwing two picks Sunday.

The Bengals are back in action Week 7 at Indianapolis.

A.J. Green injury dooms Andy Dalton

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/9/14) The good news for Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is that his Week 6 opponent, Carolina, has given up the seventh-most Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, having just allowed three touchdowns, one rushing and two throwing, to the Bears' Jay Cutler last week.

The bad news is he'll likely be without his star wide receiver, A.J. Green.

In some cases, the quarterback makes the receiver. In some cases, the receiver makes the quarterback. Dalton isn't a total bum without Green, but Green's freakish size and range makes Dalton look better than he is. He did OK without Green for most of Week 2 against Atlanta, but the Panthers are better defensively than the Falcons.

I wouldn't count on big numbers for Dalton this week. I don't know that I'd rank him outside the top 20, as Jamey Eisenberg and Dave Richard have, but certainly in one-quarterback leagues, I wouldn't be looking to start him.

Andy Dalton throws two touchdowns for first time this year

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/6/14) Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton started slowly Sunday night against the Patriots, hitting 6 of 11 throws for 63 yards before halftime. He finished 15 of 24 for 204 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers.

It was Dalton's first two-touchdown game in four outings this year. He should have had a third score, but tight end Jermaine Gresham dropped a perfect throw in the end zone.

Dalton threw both scoring passes in the third quarter. He hit Mohamed Sanu on a 37-yard post, then A.J. Green made a jugging catch for a 17-yard toucheown.

Dalton faces the Panthers in Week 6.
