Colin Kaepernick says 49ers offense 'can do more'
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/20/14) 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is excited about the offense this year with all his weapons at receiver.

He said in an interview with the media Thursday that having Steve Johnson, Brandon Lloyd and Bruce Ellington to go with Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Vernon Davis and Quinton Patton should open up the passing game.

"I think it gives us an opportunity as an offense to do a lot more," Kaepernick said.

When asked if he would you like to see the offense start tilting more toward the passing game, Kaepernick said: "I want to see this offense do whatever it has to do to win games. That’s really what’s most important, but I’m always good to throw a few more balls."

He added that the offense has the "capability" to become an elite, prolific passing attack.

49ers OC says Colin Kaepernick ready for new offense
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/18/14) 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said the team opted to "clean out the garage" and rebuild the playbook for the 2014 season. That could mean more three-receiver sets and perhaps much more passing than the Niners have done in the past.

One reason for the change is because Colin Kaepernick is more ready for what the coaches are teaching him, Roman said.

"It's his second full year starting, fourth year in the system," Roman said. "He's seeing things now that he didn't see before. He's right on track."

Roman added that the offense will be more prepared for every situation they're faced with. Because the defense isn't quite as loaded as it's been in the past thanks to some injuries and question marks, the offense might have to shoulder more of the load to win games, meaning put points on the board.

The 49ers averaged a league-low 26.1 pass attempts per game and scored 25.4 points per game (11th best) in 2013.

Colin Kaepernick, two others, face no charges from Miami incident
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/12/14) There will be no charges filed against 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette or 49ers receiver Quinton Patton from a suspicious incident that occurred earlier this offseason in Miami in which Kaepernick was linked to a possible sexual assault, Comcast Sports Net reports.

"No charges, no indication that a criminal act was committed," Ed Griffith of the state attorney's office said. "She was alleging that she may have been the victim of a sexual assault, and there was no evidence."

The announcement brings a conclusion to an episode in which Kaepernick maintained his innocence from the beginning.

Contract breakdown: Colin Kaepernick
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/5/14) Colin Kaepernick signed a six-year, $126 million deal with just over $60 million in potential guarantees with the 49ers, but according to ProFootballTalk.com the quarterback will have to play well to receive much of that promised money.

Per the site, only $13.073 million is guaranteed. The rest of the $61 million will be converted into full guarantees on a yearly basis. Every year, before April 1, the Niners have the right to either keep him for what's on the contract or cut him. For instance, next year he's guaranteed $12.4 million, but only if the Niners keep him on the roster by the beginning of April, 2015. Kaepernick could also receive the yearly salaries if he's injured.

There's also a de-escalator clause in the contract where Kaepernick loses $2 million in guarantees per season if he doesn't play in the Super Bowl or isn't named first- or second-team All-Pro.

Colin Kaepernick signs big extension
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/4/14) 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick signed a big contract extension Wednesday, reports the NFL Network.

The deal is reportedly worth six years for $126 million with $60 million guaranteed. He was scheduled to make less than $1 million this season prior to the extension.

Kaepernick has led the 49ers to the Super Bowl and NFC Championship Game in consecutive years since taking over for Alex Smith midway through the 2012 season.
