Muhammad, Jarrett battle to start: The Carolina Growl reports there could be competition for the No. 2 WR spot in Carolina behind Steve Smith. Muhsin Muhammad is the incumbent, but the report says Dwayne Jarrett could push Muhammad for the starting spot. The report says "the Panthers would like Dwayne Jarrett to step up and assume that role. But Jarrett has to prove on the field that he brings more to the table than Muhammad, which isn't easy considering Muhammad is an outstanding downfield blocker and the Panthers love to run the football."

Fantasy Analysis

We'll keep an eye on what happens in this competition, but we expect Muhammad to win the job because he's the veteran and Jarrett has been a disappointment. Regardless of who starts, Muhammad and Jarrett have minimal Fantasy value and are only worth drafting with late-round picks.

Evaluating our 14-team mock draft
Our recently held 14-team mock draft had plenty of twists and turns. Our Jamey Eisenberg goes through all 14 rosters and shares some of the highlights and lowlights.

Muhsin Muhammad beat expectations with a 65-catch, 923-yard and five-touchdown season in 2008 (14.2 yards per catch avg.). Not bad for a 35-year-old wide receiver who averaged four touchdowns and about 700 yards over three years in Chicago. 'Moose' only produced one 100-yard game and topped 50 yards nine times. He's the kind of receiver you can use as a one-week replacement in 2009 and is worth drafting with a late-round pick to ride your bench, especially in deeper leagues. He will be entering a contract year in '09, but at his age, how much longer can he play at a good level? (Updated 3/12/09)
