Release of Ray Rice report coming 'sooner rather than later'

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/14/14) Former FBI director Robert Mueller III is "being thorough" and "getting closer" to completing his investigation into the NFL's handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. Mueller "has interviewed every female employee at the NFL office," the report said.

One league source predicted the report will be released "sooner rather than later," per Schefter. Giants owner John Mara and Steelers owner Art Rooney updated their colleagues during the owners' meeting in Dallas.

The NFL initially suspended Rice two games, then suspended him indefinitely following the release of a video showing Rice knocking out his then-fiancee in a casino elevator. A judge overturned the indefinite suspension and Rice is free to sign with any team.

Rice spent his first six years with the Ravens, producing four 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

Unsigned Ray Rice seeks 'second chance' from NFL team

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/2/14) Former Ravens running back Ray Rice told NBC's Matt Lauer he hopes another NFL team is willing to "look deeper into who I am and realize that me and my wife had one bad night, and I took full responsibility for it."

Rice gave the interview after a judge overturned his indefinite suspension from the league. He's free to sign with any team. Rice was caught on video knocking his then-fiancee unconscious in an Atlantic City hotel elevator in February.

"One thing about my punishment and everything going along with anything that happened is that I've accepted it," Rice said on the "Today' show. "I went fully forward with it. I never complained, or I never did anything like that. I took full responsibility for everything that I did, and the only thing I can hope for and wish for is a second chance."

Rice acknowledged he made a "horrendous mistake" by not apologizing to his wife, Janay, in the press conference following the incident.

"I was nervous, and that was the first time we were available to speak," he said. "And I made a horrendous mistake not apologizing to my wife.

"We were given what to speak about. It wasn't truly coming from us, if you can understand, but I made that clear in my last time I was able to speak that my wife is an angel. She can do no wrong. I take full responsibility for my actions."

Rice turns 28 in January. He produced four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons before running for 660 yards and averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry in 2013.

Browns not considering adding running back Ray Rice

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12/1/14) Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters Monday the team has not discussed adding free agent running back Ray Rice .

Rice is free to sign with any team, but multiple teams have not expressed interest in signing the embattled running back.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell not interested in signing Ray Rice

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/1/14) Lions coach Jim Caldwell told reporters during his Monday news conference that his team has not considered signing Ray Rice, per ESPN.

Caldwell was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Ravens in 2012–2013. He told reporters he believes Rice deserves and will receive a second chance, but isn't sure when that will be.

The Lions join multiple teams that reportedly aren't interested in signing the 27-year-old back.

Saints coach Sean Payton also indicated following a Week 13 win over the Steelers that his team has no interest in signing Rice. According to a Sunday report from CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Colts aren't planning on signing Rice, especially after an 88-yard performance from interim running back Dan Herron.

Ray Rice keeping in shape in hopes of 2014 return

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/30/14) Running back Ray Rice, who had his indefinite suspension overturned Friday by a judge, has been training daily in hopes of returning to the NFL this season, sources close to Rice told CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

While Colts sources have privately said they are not planning on bringing in Rice, the team's need at running back and Rice's strong relationship with coach Chuck Pagano has many around the NFL wondering if the Colts' stance might chance should their backfield concerns continue to be an issue.

The Broncos could be another possible match, some have suggested, since Denver has had its concerns at running back as well and general manager John Elway is in win mode with quarterback Peyton Manning's future uncertain.
