Jimmy Claussen wins backup quarterback battle
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/25/14) Bears quarterback Jimmy Clausen has won the No. 2 role under center after the team parted ways with Jordan Palmer Sunday.

"They both competed really hard for the job," head coach Marc Trestman told ESPN.com. "As I told Jordan, Jimmy played at a consistent level, as did Jordan. I really threw out the five or six plays Jordan had the other night backed up. I know Jordan was terribly upset about that situation. That really didn't come into the consideration. Jimmy's played a lot more football in this league. He's younger, and I thought the competition was very close. But I thought at the end of the day, I think the upside for Jimmy, his age, his experience, and he came highly recommended from some people I trust in Carolina."

Clausen has completed 64.9 percent of his passes this preseason for 280 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Jordan Palmer to be No. 2 quarterback Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/20/14) Bears quarterback Jordan Palmer will be the first signal caller off the bench to relieve starter Jay Cutler in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks, ESPNChicago.com reports. Jimmy Clausen served as the No. 2 QB in the last preseason game.

"Jay will work certainly into the second quarter and we'll make a decision during the second quarter what we're going to do with him," Trestman said. "That will be dependent on a number of different things. And then after that we'll have Jordan, so expect Jordan to play the third quarter and Jimmy to play the fourth. We'll continue to rotate these guys around. We've got another week after this one and that's the way we'll operate this week."

Palmer and Claussen are batting to win the primary backup spot behind Cutler.

Jimmy Clausen solid, but unspectacular, against Jaguars
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/14/14) Bears backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen was solid, but unspectacular, against the Jaguars Thursday.

Clausen came on in relief of Jay Cutler halfway through the second quarter. He did see some time with the starting offensive line. Clausen completed 11 of 15 passes, but spent most of the night checking down. He finished with 94 yards. Clausen was also picked off during the game, but it came on a tipped pass.

Jimmy Clausen to play ahead of Jordan Palmer on Thursday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/12/14) Bears coach Marc Trestman said quarterback Jimmy Clausen will relieve Jay Cutler in Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars, with Jordan Palmer playing third. Clausen and Palmer are fighting for the backup job.

Clausen hit 7 of 13 throws for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason opener, while Palmer went 8 for 11 for 104 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Jimmy Clausen might have leg up on Jordan Palmer
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(7/26/14) Jimmy Clausen might have gotten the jump on incumbent Jordan Palmer in the battle for the backup Bears quarterback job behind Jay Cutler. The former is working with the second-team Saturday in practice, per ESPN.

Injuries have prevented Clausen from throwing an NFL pass since 2010 with Carolina. It remains to be seen if he can hang on to the backup spot with Chicago.
