Tom Brady on Peyton Manning: 'I certainly hope he comes back'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/29/15) While the football world anxiously awaits official word from Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning about his playing status for the 2015 season, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady -- and longtime Manning rival -- said Thursday he hopes the five-time NFL MVP will continue his career.

"What a great player he's been for this league," Brady said Thursday, per NFL.com. "He's a great competitor, and I've been fortunate to play against him a bunch of times. I certainly hope he comes back, 'cause the league will miss him if he doesn't. But those decisions are up to him. I'm sure it's up to whether he's mentally and physically -- that's what he wants to do. But I certainly hope he's back."

Archie Manning, Peyton's father, told NFL Network on Thursday that his son hasn't made a decision yet.

"Well, Peyton evaluates things; he's pretty good at that," he said. "I can't tell him what to do, and he hasn't told me what he's going to do. But I do know that he's really giving a lot of things a lot of thought. He's thinking about where he is physically, he wants to see how he can do this some more, trying to get over an injury."

Archie added starting over with new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak will not be an issue for Peyton, if he decides to return next season.

"Yeah, but he loves Gary. He likes Gary," Archie Manning said. "He liked John Fox. He liked Adam Gase. All those things, I think, are considered with. But my deal is he's always made good decisions; he's pretty thorough. He's going to evaluate a lot of things, and I think he'll make a good decision."

WR Emmanuel Sanders says Peyton Manning will return to Broncos

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1/24/15) Although Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders' only communication with Peyton Manning was through a postseason text message, he believes that the veteran quarterback will return for another season, he told NFL.com on Friday.

Sanders and the Broncos were eliminated by the Colts in the AFC divisional round. Since that loss, the Broncos' coaching staff has been overhauled, with coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase heading to Chicago.

"Well, Gase is definitely in Chicago right now," Sanders said. "And Peyton says he's going to come back, but I'm not really worried about it, I really just want to win a Super Bowl. So that is all that is on my mind."

Gary Kubiak was hired to take Fox's place in Denver, and Sanders said that if Manning doesn't return, backup Brock Osweiler would fit "really well" in the team's new offensive scheme.

"Yeah, I think Brock is a quarterback that is on the rise, he's going to continuously get better and I feel like Kubiak's offense fits him really well," Sanders said.

Sanders signed a three-year, $15 million contract with the Broncos last March. He earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl after totaling 101 catches for 1,404 yards and nine touchdowns -- all career highs.

Report: Peyton Manning aims to return for 2015 season

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/21/15) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning wants to return for the 2015 season but can't make a final decision until he takes his annual physical, three sources told the Denver Post. Manning will await tests on his neck and the quad injury that bothered him at the end of the season, the report said.

Late in the regular season, Manning indicated he'd definitely return. But after losing in the playoffs to the Colts, Manning was noncommittal.

Manning, 38, is set to make $19 million in 2015. New coach Gary Kubiak said he's already had some "very good conversations" with Manning and is looking forward to building a playbook around Manning's talents, assuming he returns.

Last year, the paper said, the results of Manning's physical were ready in early March.

Gary Kubiak: 'Easy to build a playbook' for Peyton Manning

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/20/15) Introduced as Broncos head coach Tuesday, Gary Kubiak dismissed the notion that Peyton Manning is not a fit for the West Coast offense Kubiak runs. Kubiak stressed he'll build a scheme around his players' talents, not fit them into a rigid system.

"It's easy to build a playbook for him," Kubiak said of Manning. "He's been the master at it for many, many years. You're talking about a Hall of Fame player, Hall of Fame person."

Manning certainly isn't suited for the bootlegs and rollouts Kubiak is fond of. Kubiak said he views his role as being "the best support system" he can be for Manning.

"We're going to do what the players do best," Kubiak said.

Kubiak said he's already talked to Manning extensively, mainly about family and non-football issues. Manning, who must decide by March 9 whether he'll return next season, will undergo a physical next month that could affect his decision.

Kubiak said he embraces the high expectations in Denver and thanked team ownership for "bringing me home." The former Ravens offensive coordinator and Texans head coach said he loves calling plays but "if things work out," others will be involved in playcalling.

Peyton Manning likely to make playing status decision by March 9

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/20/15) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has a deadline of March 9 to make a decision about his playing status for the 2015 season, according to The Denver Post.

The March 9 deadline is significant because Manning's contract stipulates that his $19 million salary for the 2015 season becomes fully guaranteed, if he is still on the Broncos' roster by the final day of the 2014 league year. The new 2015 season begins on March 10.

Manning is scheduled to undergo a physical toward the end of February, which could determine if he is healthy enough to play in 2015, according to NFL Network.
