Chargers send Spikes packing: A source told NFL Network that the Chargers will release linebacker Takeo Spikes. He started every game for San Diego over the last two seasons and totaled 184 tackles with 1.5 sacks, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and an interception. (Updated 3/7/13) |

Spikes had back-to-back 100-total-tackle seasons in 2010 and 2011 before slipping in 2012. He's an old man by NFL standards but apparently will look for a job in 2013. We wouldn't draft him unless he wound up in the perfect situation as a starter, which is far from guaranteed. (Updated 3/7/13). |
| Takeo Spikes was cut by the Chargers in March, but the 15-year veteran is still expected to play in 2013 if he can find a job. He will turn 37 this year, but he's still playing well. In 2012 with the Chargers, Spikes had 78 total tackles (53 solo). He is still a good source of tackles with eight seasons with 100 or more, and he should be useful to Fantasy owners as a No. 3 linebacker in deep IDP leagues. He is worth drafting with a late-round pick in deeper leagues depending on where he signs, and he can be a spot starter or bye-week replacement in the majority of leagues. (Updated 4/26/13) |
