Consistency proving tough for Russell Wilson
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(10/26/14) Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has now alternated huge Fantasy performances with duds in each of the last four weeks, as he struggled to do much in a Week 8 win over the Panthers.
Wilson, who racked up 40 Fantasy points last week, managed just 14 Sunday. He passed for 199 yards and one touchdown, and rushed for 35 yards on the ground, and that last bit appears to be the key. Wilson topped 100 yards in Weeks 5 and 7, which also happened to be his best Fantasy performances of the season. In Weeks 6 and 7, he has combined for just 47 rushing yards, and just 24 Fantasy points as a result.
With the lack of weapons around him in the passing game, Wilson is going to have to do a lot on his own to be Fantasy relevant. As he has shown in recent weeks, he is certainly capable of that, but there is reason to be a little bit concerned about his ability to post consistent production moving forward.

|(10/26/14) Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson tossed one touchdown Week 8 against the Panthers.
Seattle's offense was held in check throughout most of the contest. Wilson especially had trouble early, missing throws and looking uncomfortable in the pocket. He also didn't have much room to run, picking up 35 rushing yards, most of which came late. Wilson did come through when it mattered, leading a game-winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Wilson completeled all five passes on the drive, eventually hitting Luke Willson for the 23 yard score.
Wilson finished 20 of 32, for 199 yards and a touchdown. He'll take on the Raiders Week 9.
Are we really doubting Russell Wilson still?

|(10/23/14) Coming off the best game of his life (at least from a statistical standpoint), Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is started in only 67 percent of CBSSports.com Fantasy leagues. Is that a problem to anyone else?
In case you haven't noticed, the Seahawks haven't been as dominant defensively this year, which has made Wilson's performance more critical to their success. The result is better numbers for the third-year passer. He's contributed at least two touchdowns in every game but one, and that one was sandwiched between two three-touchdown games, including Week 7.
In those three-touchdown games, Wilson also rushed for more than 100 yards, leading to some monster production that has made him the fifth-best quarterback in standard CBSSports.com leagues to date.
So he's consistent and has a high ceiling from week to week. So ... what's the deal, then? Certainly it's not the matchup steering you away from him in Week 8. The hosting Panthers have allowed the sixth-most Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season and rank 22nd against the pass, giving up 250.7 yards per game.
Losing does wonders for Russell Wilson's numbers

|(10/19/14) Though it wasn't the case Week 6 against Dallas, when the Seahawks began what's now their first losing streak since 2012, quarterback Russell Wilson has thrived with the team's diminished dominance this season. Never was it more apparent than Week 7 at St. Louis, when a come-from-behind effort translated to a career high in total yards. He completed 23 of 36 passes for 313 yards and ran seven times for 106. It was his second 100-yard rushing effort in his last three games.
He also had three touchdowns -- two through the air and one on the ground -- giving him multiple scores in five of the team's six games this season. He had multiple scores in only eight of 16 games last season.
Though the Seahawks have done a fine job limiting yardage, they haven't been as dominant defensively as they were last season, and that's given them a greater need for offense late in games. Though they won't always be playing from behind against a defense that will allow them to make up ground, they may need to throw in the fourth quarter often enough for Wilson to keep this up.
He's a good choice to start again Week 8 at Carolina.
Russell Wilson explodes for 419 total yards, 3 TDs

|(10/19/14) Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, held to 138 total yards by the Cowboys in Week 6, erupted in the Week 7 loss at St. Louis. Wilson hit 23 of 36 throws for 313 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, and he ran seven times for 106 yards and another score.
Wilson scored a rushing touchdown for the third straight week when he scooted 19 yards on a zone-read play in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Wilson broke containment for a career-long 52-yard scamper.
He threw both touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, hitting tight end Cooper Helfet for 19 yards and wideout Doug Baldwin for 9 yards.
Wilson, who's thrown two touchdowns in five of six starts, visits the Panthers in Week 8.

|Russell Wilson has done quite a lot during his first two seasons in the NFL, including winning the Super Bowl this past year. Along the way he has turned into a quality Fantasy quarterback. Now, Wilson isn't going to win your Fantasy championship on his own, but he won't hurt you much either. He was the No. 9 Fantasy quarterback in 2013 for the second year in a row after he passed for 3,357 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 63 percent completions, and he ran for 539 yards and one touchdown. He had seven games with 20-plus Fantasy points, but he also had seven games with 16 points or less. Wilson does get Percy Harvin back for a full season, but he loses Golden Tate as a free agent to Detroit. We'd rather draft Wilson as a high-end No. 2 Fantasy quarterback and start him when the matchup is right, but he can be considered a starter in deeper leagues. He is worth drafting with a mid- to late-round pick in all formats.
