Jets WR Jeremy Kerley nearly scores TD in Week 7 defeat

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/17/14) Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley nearly found the end zone in a Week 7 loss to the Patriots on Thursday.

Kerley caught a 9-yard pass from Geno Smith for a touchdown on the opening drive of the first quarter but the score was nullified by an offensive holding penalty. He was held without a grab through the first three quarters before coming down with a 16-yard reception on the penultimate drive and a 13-yard catch on the final drive of the night. He was targeted five times and finished with three catches for 29 yards in a 27-25 defeat. He has 201 receiving yards this season.

The Jets will host the Bills in Week 8.

Jets WR Jeremy Kerley has 'no idea' why he's not targeted more

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/16/14) Jets wideout Jeremy Kerley is not exactly turning cartwheels over the attention he's received in the offense this season.

"I have no idea," he told the New York Post when asked about his targets. "Every receiver wants more than two or three targets, but it is what it is."

Kerley has been a victim of poor quarterback play and an inability to consistently get open. He actually received seven targets in the Sunday loss to Denver, but snagged just one. He has 20 catches in 40 passes thrown his way this season, giving him an average of nearly seven targets per game.

Jets receivers pitch in during Week 6 defeat to Denver

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/12/14) A quartet of Jets receivers made small offensive contributions in the defeat to visiting Denver on Sunday. Included was Jeremy Kerley, who caught just one pass for four yards and now has five receptions for just 31 yards in his last three games combined.

Greg Salas chipped in with one catch for 27 yards while tight end Jeff Cumberland snagged two for 10 yards and T.J. Graham added one reception for 10 yards.

Every Jets receiver struggles Week 5

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) The Jets receivers had an incredibly hard time putting anything together Week 5.

Offensively, the Jets were a mess in the passing game. Geno Smith was benched after an awful half, and Michael Vick wasn't much better. Both players combined for just 60 passing yards.

The biggest performance in the passing game was by Jeremy Kerley. Kerley gained 24 yards on three receptions. He led the team in receiving yards. Jace Amaro finished second, gaining 19 yards on three catches. Both Jeff Cumberland and Greg Salas hauled in two passes for 12 yards. David Nelson had one reception for 9 yards.

The group will hope for more Week 6 against the Broncos.

Jeremy Kerley takes a backseat with Decker healthy

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/29/14) Jets quarterback Geno Smith had been looking Jeremy Kerley's way a bunch through the first three games of the season, but that trend came to a quick stop in Week 4 against the Lions.

With Eric Decker limited by a hamstring injury early in the season, Kerley had been arguably the top option in the passing game. He had 24 passes thrown his way through three games, but that number shrank to three Sunday. Not coincidentally, Decker was healthy enough to play 80 percent of the snaps, and was targeted 10 times in the game.

Kerley still played 77 percent of the snaps, and should see more looks in the future. Still, it is clear he does not have Smith's trust if better options are available. Being the No. 2 receiving option in a bad passing offense won't lead to good things for Kerley.

Last week, we suggested Kerley might be someone worth looking at, based on his workload so far. After further review, it is clear Kerley should be considered waiver-wire fodder moving forward.
