Ravens will learn more on Dennis Pitta's hip injury this summer

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/24/15) Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta's future could be decided this summer.

Speaking at the NFL owners meetings, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said there isn't an update on Pitta's future but that the organization will learn more about his status this summer, via WNST.

Pitta dislocated and fractured his hip early during the 2014 season, suffering the same injury he sustained during Baltimore's training camp in 2013. The injury is significant enough that there is a chance Pitta decides to retire.

"In the end it's going to be up to Dennis," Harbaugh said, via The Baltimore Sun

Ravens in 'wait and see mode' with Dennis Pitta

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2/24/15) Dennis Pitta is attempting to recover from his second dislocated and fractured his hip in the last two years, and the Ravens dosn't seem confident in his chances.

Meeting with the media at his "state of the Ravens address" on Tuesday, general manager Ozzie Newsome said that the team is in "wait and see mode" with Pitta. "We may not have any answers until we get into summer."

The team will add tight ends, preparing for the possiblity that Pitta can't return.

Ravens' Harbaugh: 'There's nothing definitive' on Dennis Pitta's future

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/18/15) Ravens coach John Harbaugh said at the combine on Wednesday that "there's nothing definitive" on tight end Dennis Pitta's playing status, per the team's official website. Pitta dislocated and fractured his hip for the second time in as many years.

"It's between Dennis and the doctors right now," Harbaugh said. "I've got my fingers crossed, but only for what's best for Dennis. There's no way in the world that you want anything other than the fact that he can be safe."

Harbaugh noted that his surgically-repaired hip is fully recovered, and it will be up to Pitta if he wants to resume his playing career.

"His hip is fully recovered in the sense that the blood flow is there and there's no lingering problem from either one of the injuries, so he's in great position to live a great life, which is the main thing," Harbaugh said.

Decision on TE Dennis Pitta still a couple weeks away

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/21/15) Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta met with specialists last week about his hip, coach John Harbaugh told the Baltimore Sun, saying a decision on Pitta's future would be announced in about two weeks. Pitta dislocated and fractured his hip Week 3 against the Browns, the second time in two years he suffered that injury.

“I did get kind of an overview of that report from our trainer that I wouldn’t really want to share until Dennis has had a chance to kind of consider all of the ramifications of it,” Harbaugh told the paper. “But I think we’ll have something on that in a couple of weeks, kind of on Dennis’ time frame. We’ll see where that goes.”

Harbaugh said earlier he was "cautiously optimistic" about Pitta resuming his career, but added the priority is that Pitta be “totally healthy” and “totally safe."
