Dennis Pitta a difference maker in red zone
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/28/14) With tight end Dennis Pitta out for most of last season, the Ravens ranked 31st in red zone scoring percentage, notes ESPN.com. Pitta scored 10 touchdowns in the red zone in 2011 and 2012, three more than any other Raven during that span, and the team is expecting a similar impact in 2014.

Pitta appears fully recovered from last year's hip injury. "I’m out here not thinking about it," Pitta said. "It’s not giving me an issue at all; I feel 100 percent. I’m encouraged with where I’m at."

Pitta has plenty of motivation after playing in just four games last year. "Not playing very much at all last season, you just have to kind of watch and wish you were out there, watch other people do well and wish you could be out there showcasing your abilities," he said. "So, I’m excited to have that chance this year and certainly motivated to do that."

Dennis Pitta to play versatile role
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/9/14) The Ravens are expected to use tight end Dennis Pitta in a variety of ways this offseason, reports the Baltimore Sun.

During offseason practices, Pitta has been split out as an extra wide receiver to working out of the backfield as well as traditional in-line tight end alignments.

"I have done a lot of different things in this offense already," Pitta said. "I would assume that would continue to increase, but I'm trying to get down the basics still right now and trying to be effective at some of our basic plays, and hopefully, I can get in a position where I can play a variety of positions."

Dennis Pitta headed for breakout year
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/9/14) Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta said he's "reinventing" himself, and the newer version could be on the verge of a breakout season, reports the team's official website.

Pitta's best year was in 2012 when he caught 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. He missed most of the 2013 season with a hip injury.

"That's what you always shoot for; you always want the breakout year," Pitta said. "I think there is a little more excitement for me than usual. When you don't get to play a major role like you thought you would originally, it excites you to be back."

Pitta should benefit with the addition of new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who was the former head coach in Houston. No offense targeted tight ends more over the past three years than Kubiak's did with the Texans.

"It's a fun system to play in and I'm excited to learn and grow," Pitta said "The system is set up for receivers to have big years and for tight ends to catch a lot of footballs."

Joe Flacco, receivers to get early start
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/25/14) Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will work out with his receivers before the team's offseason program.

"Joe has communicated that through texts, and Torrey [Smith] has told me that they have a session planned and are trying to work out the dates," coach John Harbaugh said at the NFL owners meetings. "I'll be looking forward to seeing how it goes. It is important. It's big."

Flacco's receiving corps includes Torrey Smith, Steve Smith, Marlon Brown, Jacoby Jones and tight end Dennis Pitta. Flacco threw 19 touchdowns and a career-high 22 interceptions last year.

Ravens sign Dennis Pitta to five-year deal
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/28/14) The Ravens have reached an agreement on a five-year deal with tight end Dennis Pitta, the Baltimore Sun reports. The contract is worth $32 million.

The deal avoided a potential messy situation with the franchise tag, and now the Ravens have locked up one of Joe Flacco's favorite targets. Pitta returned last season from a fractured, dislocated right hip to play the final four games. He caught 20 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown.

Pitta, 28, has 122 career receptions for 1,244 yards and 11 touchdowns.
