|'Strong possibility' Falcons will reach out to Champ Bailey |
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
(3/9/14) There is a "strong possibility" the Falcons will look into signing Champ Bailey, if the 35-year-old is willing to play nickel corner, reports ESPN.com. The Broncos released Bailey, creating $10 million in cap space.
Bailey played his college ball at the University of Georgia and is revered in the state.

(3/6/14) In the wake of Champ Bailey's eventual release from the Broncos, the veteran said he's open to playing safety in order to continue his NFL career.
Denver doesn't want to pay him $9 million for 2014, so the 35-year-old is willing to move on and even play a new position in the defensive secondary.
"I just want to see what people will want me to do,"Bailey told USA Today. "My vision is to still play corner, but I'm a little more open-minded about the season I had last year. I'm a corner at heart. If a situation made sense to play safety, then I would consider it."
|Champ Bailey to be a cap casualty |
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
(3/6/14) The Broncos are set to release defensive back Champ Bailey Thursday, according to CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. The veteran corner's release will open up $10 million on the team's salary cap, coming off a season that saw the 35-year-old finish with just 14 tackles and no interceptions in five games.
|LaCanfora: Champ Bailey will get new deal |
|by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(2/18/14) Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey is expected to get a new contract in the near future to restructure his deal, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora.
LaCanfora reports that there's "no way" Bailey is making $9 million in 2014, which would cost the Broncos $10 million against the cap. LaCanfora writes that the Broncos will look to sign him to a lesser deal at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Bailey played in just five games in 2013 with 14 tackles and no interceptions. It was the first time in his career he failed to record an interception.
|Champ Bailey, Tony Carter exposed in Super Bowl |
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
(2/3/14) With cornerback Chris Harris sidelined by a torn ACL, Broncos corners Champ Bailey and Tony Carter got exposed in the Super Bowl. Carter gave up a perfect 158.3 passer rating on passes thrown to his coverage area, while Bailey yielded a 115.6 rating, according to Pro Football Focus.
Carter also was called for pass interference in the end zone, leading to a Seattle touchdown. Only corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie held up, allowing a 72.9 rating.
|Champ Bailey remains one of the league's premier shutdown cornerbacks even at age 34. Even though most teams only throw his way a couple times a game, Bailey's 52 career interceptions rank first among cornerbacks since he entered the league as the seventh overall pick by the Redskins in 2009, and his 201 pass breakups are tops among players during the past 13 years. Bailey's stats aren't regularly impressive because he doesn't get thrown at a lot. That could change if his skills begin to deteriorate, which might happen down the line. For now, assume that Bailey will serve Fantasy owners as a good one-week replacement, potentially a regular No. 3 defensive back in deeper leagues. (Updated 4/25/13) |
