RB Danny Woodhead hopes to provide spark for Chargers

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(6/15/15) Danny Woodhead is finally healthy, and the running back hopes that will make a difference in the Chargers' offense, per ESPN.com.

Woodhead broke his ankle in Week 3, leaving San Diego without it's primary third-down back and a key target out of the backfield. But he seems to be back to 100 percent during the Bolts' offseason training work, and that should give the team's offense an added dimension.

"Hopefully (the offense is) a little bit better than it was at this point last year, but we'll see," he said. "It's a day-to-day process. We want to be great, and we think we've got a lot of good guys and a lot of good pieces. So we're excited about it."

Woodhead had more than 1,000 total yards in 2013, but had just 72 total yards when he went down last season.

Chargers RB Danny Woodhead feeling healthy after broken fibula

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/20/15) Chargers running back Danny Woodhead is starting to get back to normal this offseason. Woodhead suffered injuries to both his fibula and right ankle, which ended his season in Week 3 in 2014. He believes he's back to healthy and will report to for offseason workouts this week, according to the team's website.

"I feel really, really good," Woodhead said. "I really do. As far as the injury goes, that is something I'm not even thinking about. I'm thinking about trying to get better. I'm focusing on working on what I can do to be better than I was last year. Obviously I wasn't able to play a lot of games, so I should say I want to be better than I was that first season here."

Woodhead totaled over 1,000 all-purpose yards when healthy in 2013 with San Diego and scored eight touchdowns.

"It's been a long process," Woodhead said. "But definitely it makes you hungrier when the game is taken away. It makes you realize how blessed you are to play it. Not that I didn't understand that before, but when it is taken away for such a long amount of time, it makes you even hungrier. You miss being out there with your brothers. I'm excited for this season. I'm always excited, but my mentality might even be younger and hungrier than ever before."

Chargers shuffle active roster Tuesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/23/14) The Chargers made several moves Tuesday, adding running back Shaun Draughn and linebackers Kevin Reddick and Cordarro Law to the active roster. The team also placed running back Danny Woodhead on injured reserve and released defensive lineman Lawrence Guy.

The Chargers added three players to the practice squad Tuesday as well: running back D.J. Adams, tight end David Paulson and outside linebacker Colton Underwood. Adrian Phillips was released from the practice squad, while Marcus Cromartie was released from the reserved-injured list.

Coach confirms Danny Woodhead won't return in 2014

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/22/14) Chargers coach Mike McCoy told reporters Monday running back Danny Woodhead is headed to season-ending injured reserve due to a broken fibula suffered Sunday against the Bills.

"We're going to miss him. But we've got to move on," McCoy said.

Report: Danny Woodhead needs season-ending surgery

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/21/14) Chargers running back Danny Woodhead is likely done for the season, FOXSports.com reports, after suffering a serious ankle injury in Week 3 against the Bills.

Woodhead injured the ankle when he was tackled on his first run of the game, and the injury will likely require surgery, according to the report. He has been diagnosed with a severe high ankle sprain and fractured fibula, injuries that will likely end his campaign.

At this point, the team has not given an update on his status.
