(10/17/13) Chargers linebacker Melvin Ingram has been able to work out on the sidelines during practice, but the team's first-round pick is not yet ready to return from a torn ACL.
He could be ready soon, though there is no indication as to when he might be brought off the PUP list, according to ESPN.com. Ingram is eligible to be activated, but the team has a five-week window to bring him back, and they might not be ready to make that decision just yet.
"Melvin's working extremely hard to get back," head coach Mike McCoy said Wednesday. "We're going to do what’s best for him and the rest of the team. If you asked Melvin, he would've told you a month and a half ago he could've played. But that's been his approach from the day he got hurt here, is that he would be back, and don't worry about it."
Ingram is just five months removed from surgery, a very limited time frame when judged against the 9-12 months this injury usually requires.
