Falcons intend to keep Julio Jones 'for years to come'
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(2/19/15) The Falcons have discussed signing wide receiver Julio Jones to a long-term contract, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitorff confirmed Thursday at the NFL combine that the team intends to keep Jones in a Falcons uniform 'for years to come.'
"There's no question that we've had discussions about Julio and obviously everyone else on our roster," Dimitroff said. "He's one of the guys that we feel is one of the best talents in the league."
Jones will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season, but Dimitroff said the team needs to be careful with how they offer salaries.
"You take a quarterback, who's going to be very expensive and then take wide receiver and a couple of other positions and make sure that you are paying market value and also making sure that you have enough space on the team to do the right thing," Dimitroff said.
Report: Falcons yet to start extension talks with Julio Jones
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/19/15) The Falcons have yet to start negotiations with top receiver Julio Jones for a contract extension, reports ESPN. Team owner Arthur Blank said earlier in the month that he wants the Falcons to sign Jones to a long term contract, but that the decision wouldn't be up to him.
Jones is set to make approximately $10.2 million in 2015 and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016 if a new deal is not signed, or if he isn't franchise tagged. He set a franchise-record 1,593 receiving yards in 15 games on 104 receptions with six touchdowns in 2014.
New Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan excited to work with Matt Ryan
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(2/10/15) New Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is ready to build a playbook for quarterback Matt Ryan. He posted his second-highest passing yards mark in 2014, throwing for 4,694 yards with 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
"Matt Ryan fits everybody's offense," Shanahan said. "He's done a little bit of everything: drop back, play action. He's not done a lot of movement, but he has the athletic ability to do it. I'm really looking forward to working with him."
He will also have a deep threat in Julio Jones, who posted a career best 1,593 receiving yards on 104 catches with six touchdowns.
"We are going to make (defenses) defend the deep ball," he said.
Falcons' owner wants Julio Jones long term, but not his decision
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(2/1/15) Falcons owner Arthur Blank said Sunday the team wants to sign Julio Jones to a contract extension, but it is not his decision to make.
"As the owner, it's not my decision to make," Blank said. "The new coach will spend a great deal of time assessing the roster and all of our players, and obviously Julio is a critical one.
"Well, I think it's a decision that the head coach will look at the talent on the roster," Blank said. "Julio's been a great player for us and a great talent, and he represents us on the field and off the field as well as anybody else."
Jones is set to make $10.2 million in 2015 and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016 if a new deal is not signed. In 2014, Jones set a franchise-record 1,593 receiving yards in 15 games on 104 receptions with six touchdowns.
Broncos WR Sanders replacing Falcons WR Jones in Pro Bowl
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/16/15) Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will miss the 2015 Pro Bowl because he is still recovering from a late-season hip injury. Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will take Jones' spot on the Pro Bowl roster.
Jones made his second Pro Bowl roster after totaling 104 catches for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games in 2014. Sanders is now headed to his first Pro Bowl after totaling 101 catches for 1,404 yards and nine touchdowns -- all career highs.
|There isn't a person on the planet who doesn't see Julio Jones' immense potential. In his last 20 games he has caught 145 passes for 2,173 yards. Pretty sick, but he has just eight touchdowns to show for it. But here's the best stat on Jones: He's posted 10-plus Fantasy points in 12 of those contests with two more with nine Fantasy points. He's consistent, electric, athletic and entering a contract year. Don't be surprised if he notches over 1,500 yards again in 2015. Jones will be a second-round pick in every single draft this summer, probably soon after Odell Beckham gets snared.
